I do not know if he is too extreme, he is allowed his opinions and has the right to express them but should expect and respect that other people have very different opinions. If he makes outrageous statements he should expect opposition and comments.
A religious fundamentalist is extreme, by definition.
“In every society, the definition of marriage has not ever to my knowledge included homosexuality,” Santorum said. “That’s not to pick on homosexuality. It’s not, you know, man on child, man on dog, or whatever the case may be.”
“One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country,” Santorum said. “Many of the Christian faith have said, well, that’s OK; contraception is OK. It’s not OK. It’s a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be.”
I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money.
“Is anyone saying same-sex couples can’t love each other? I love my children. I love my friends, my brother. Heck, I even love my mother-in-law. Should we call these relationships marriage, too?”
There is no ‘Palestinian,’” Santorum said. “This is Israeli land.”
Santorum said gay marriage “is an issue just like 9/11. We didn’t decide we wanted to fight the war on terrorism because we wanted to. It was brought to us. And if not now, when? When the supreme courts in all the other states have succumbed to the Massachusetts version of the law?”
“The idea that the Crusades and the fight of Christendom against Islam is somehow an aggression on our part is absolutely anti-historical,” Santorum said. “And that is what the perception is by the American left, who hates Christendom.”
Do you have a link to this experimental setting you speak of? If you posted it already, sorry, I missed it. I agree that 2 does have something to do with it as well, btw.
Gay marriage is terrorism, homosexuality is the same as bestiality, there is no Palestine, black people can't live without stealing, condoms are evil, and his opponents hate Jesus? Roofles.
“I’m sure some of you have ancestors who were part of the greatest generation. Why were they the greatest generation?…They were the greatest generation because when their country needed them, at a time of great peril, they met the challenge,” Santorum said. “Your country needs you. It’s not as clear a challenge. Obviously, World War II was pretty obvious, but at some point, they knew.”
“We’re a hopeful people,” Santorum continued. “We think, ‘Well, you know, it’ll get better. Yeah, he’s a nice guy. I mean, it won’t be near as bad as what we think,” he continued.
“This will be okay, I mean, yeah, maybe he’s not the best guy after a while.’ After a while, you find out some things about this guy over in Europe who’s not so good of a guy after all,” Santorum said. “…Sometimes it’s not okay. It’ll be harder for this generation to figure it out. There’s no cataclysmic event,” he said.
There's the problem. He gets all fussy when people call him out for his statements.
Considering how he has a clear distaste for anyone who actually facts checks and uses Google, he's going to be getting real angry when people start pointing out his arguments have holes the size of the Andromeda Galaxy.
Many people who do not have a FULL understanding of the Bible do this.
The fact that Santorum is currently polling in the high 30's, 10 points ahead of Romney, speaks volumes about how far to the right the Republican Party has shifted.Let's consider where Santorum sits on social issues.
1. He has made it clear that he is opposed to women in the military engaging in combat.
2. He has stated that he will bring back "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."
3. He is opposed to contraception and to sexual education which teaches about contraceptives.
4. He has stated that women working outside the home undermines the traditional family.
5. He has argued that people do not have a right to consensual sex within their own homes and such a right undermines the moral fabric of society.
6. He supports a federal constitutional amendment to define marriage as between a man and a woman.
How can someone with such far right views on social issues expect to win independent votes and conservative democrat votes? Such views are also likely to rile up Obama's disenfranchised base if he were to win the nomination. I can respect that Santorum is a traditional Catholic, but trying to make this election about social issues like contraception and gay marriage would be a big mistake.
Being that it is a rather vague writing with more twists and turns than the LOTR series... I know of no one who does. I know of many who claim to have a FULL understanding of the Bible but those, in general, don't seem to have a FULL understanding of Christ.
Good point. Full was a bad word to use. The meaning I was looking for was that a lot people disect the Bible into small parts instead of a whole body of work. By saying full understanding, I was implying that many people that misquote the Bible make this mistake. The Old Testament is a very hard thing to understand, fully concur on that one.
It is hard to understand. The funny thing is, when you ask protestant Christian political folk "why don't you abide by X from the Old Testament?" they will respond that the New Testament trumps the Old Testament so therefore no need to abide by the Old Testament on that... only to soon after delve into the Old Testament for the sake of bolstering a political belief from the very same book they just rejected.
I hate that too. Christ's death, burial, and resurrection absolved us of all the rules and pageantry of being a Christian, like in the Old Testament. The Holy Spirit took the place of the rules because you feel the conviction for particular sins inside instead or reading a rule book. For instance, it says in the Old Testament Christians aren't allowed to get tattoos. Doesn't say that in the NT. Now, its a matter of personal conviction. Good point.
The Old Testament doesn't say a thing about Christians.
I am not American.........
I am not American but if I can express my opinion, looking from the outside....I think Presidential candidates should not be extreme in his views and Santorum can be faulted here.
He is far too right of centre in my opinion.
