Is Obama afraid of Putin?

Is Obama afraid of Putin?

BushII didn't do squat when Georgia fought Russia over the break away enclaves after making all those pretty, "We stand by you" speeches. Georgia lost it's ass and Dubya just watched. Putin could just sneer at saber rattling BushII and do as he pleased.

BushII and his DoD Rummyfell insulted and sneered at 'old Europe' over most European nations refusing to go into Iraq. Just how is that earning respect???? BushII didn't have a Cold War situation because Russia was still recovering from it's USSR collapse.

We 'could' a lot of things, but only a few fearmongers and Obama bashers think we are going back to a Cold War, rivalry perhaps but then again there has always been a rivalry of nations- France and England, Germany and France, Russia and Turkey, Russia and Japan...

Oh and you ain't 'SAD' to believe Obama fears Putin... you revel in it, like the warm glow after getting kicked in the nads...:2wave:

Apparently all of international diplomacy, to you, comes down to street cred.

Vietnam was a travesty and John Kerry was one of the few people with the balls to say it, and he spilled blood on that battleground. Good for him. He's an American hero.

Most of it his own blood from self inflicted wounds.

You're correct that Kerry is an American hero in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, his photograph is proudly displayed on a wall next to Jane (Hanoi) Fonda and others who gave aid and comfort to North Vietnam during the war.

I think you might have that backwards, but anyway...

He would be. It's not about who our President is, Putin doesn't give a **** what people think about him. He's going to flex his muscles and flex Russia's power.

How would you like Obama to deal with Putin?

On a not serious note, this thread begs the question - Who wouldn't be afraid of this:

Say what you want about President Bush. He had the respect of the European nations........

Holy revisionist history, Batman.

I think you might have that backwards, but anyway...

The way it works, when one country demands or wants something you don't appease that country without getting something in exchange.

Russia was quick to learn that with G.W. Bush and Bush wouldn't budge on deploying a European ABM defense umbrella in former Warsaw Pact countries to protect Europe from a ballistic missile attack from the Middle East.

When Obama became POTUS he appeased the Russians without getting really anything in exchange and today those ground based ABM are no more and instead we have two Arleigh Burke destroyers in the Med providing that ABM umbrella for Europe.

I think as far as the missile shield goes, it was a non-starter for Putin. To him it was a threat and it was right in what he belived to be his "sphere." Poland is pretty close to Russia, and look what happened when the USSR tried to put missiles in Cuba. It was a bad idea to try it, and eventually someone would have to scrap it. Bush is just lucky that the time didn't come while he was in office.

I agree that Obama has ultimately made some big miscalculations. This wasn't one of them.

Because the missile system didn't work out the way they planned. Putting the missile we ended up with in Poland would defend against the Mideast about as good as an actual nylon umbrella.

These were anti missile/missiles not tactical land attack missiles. I suppose they could be used to shoot down Russian missiles if Russia were to ever decide to attack western Europe.

Personally, I think Europe should defend their own territory. What is the purpose of NATO today ? ####, they ran out of bombs during their little war of regime change in Libya. :lamo

Regardless of the type of missiles they were, Putin wasn't going to back down on putting them on his doorstep and I don't blame him for that. Were you willing to go to the brink of war for a missile defense system that may or may not have worked? Eventually, we were going to end up blinking and I'd expect any President to do that.

Most of it his own blood from self inflicted wounds.

Another lie.

You're correct that Kerry is an American hero in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, his photograph is proudly displayed on a wall next to Jane (Hanoi) Fonda and others who gave aid and comfort to North Vietnam during the war.

And why did he throw those medals away, again?

I think putin and obama should put gloves on and get in a ring.

be easier and cheaper and more entertaining

I don't think President Obama is scared of Putin per se. But I do think Putin is a far superior politician and President Obama knows this.

Since some want the two to box, maybe they should shoot three-pointers also.
President Obama once again lets the skunk Putin save face for the good of the World in the Ukraine .

Pretty sure Putin would beat him like a rented mule. I don't want to see them box or shoot hoops. I want a better president.

There were more than just two Presidents than Carter and Obama. Many believed that Carter would blink. Obama has already blinked.

Putin plays chess while Obama plays checkers.
