Is it racist to call illegals "illegals" or "illegal aliens".I was listening to Bill'O'Reilly the other day and he had some audio of a idiotic retarded woman claiming that "illegals" or "illegal aliens" is racist.Listening to this woman you can clearly tell that she was way below average intelligence, mostly what gave it away was the fact she was trying to call illegals "undocumented immigrints".

Uhh.. no, it's not racist since:
1) It has NOTHING to do with race, and
2) It doesn't place importance or superiority of one race over another (probably due to number 1)

People are fricken idiots and just really need to get a life of their own to pay attention to instead of focusing so much on what other people say/do.

How in the world could it be racist, it's just TRUE! They are illegal aliens!

You probally misunderstood her, but there is a trace of racism that surrounds the term illegal aliens, and a common generalisation to the word. I'm sure they find it insulting to them when they are being called illegal when they are just coming over for honest work(most of them), when they can't get any in Mexico or wherever else they come from. I think we actually owe a thanks to those immigrants for helping the US economy. I definately owe them a thanks for all the hard work they put into building my house.

Undocumented immigrants is a play of words. They're undocumented because they're illegally in this country. If they were legally in the country in the country, They'd be documented. It's a way to make it seem like it's not as bad as it actually sounds.

This is quite simply untrue.

This "trace" is disdain for illegal activity.

Regardless of what race the person in question is.

I'm sure they find it insulting to them when they are being called illegal when they are just coming over for honest work

They are illegal , and honest workers have a guest worker visa.

No I didn't misunderstand her. From what I understand the retard works for some liberal rag and in that liberal rag she called O'Rielly .So O'Reilly sent someone down there to ask her about why would she make such a bogus accusation and then the guy asked her how would you like it if someone called you racist without any proof. Then she said that they would never catch her calling a undocumented immigrant a illegal alien.

The play of words is important to these scum because if they can get the term that describes one as being in this country illegally removed, it will help them blur the distinction between immigrints and illegals.Personally if I was a immigrant who worked my *** off to get in this country legally, follow all the rules and became a legal citizen I would offended by the pro-illegals trying to blatantly lump immigrints and illegals together.

Well sad to say here jamesrage, but it doesn't matter what you want to call them. Neither of the two ruling parties in this country are going to lift a finger to do anything to solve the problem.

And no its not racist.

As previously stated the term as NOTHING to do with race.

If you are here illegally then you are here illegally.

I think they're mad about being called aliens. They probably think alien means that black snake like thing in the movie that hisses at Sigourney Weaver. Thank goodness we mean foreigners.

We shouldn't have to change our vocabulary because of their ignorance on the definition of alien.

In an regard the term is still not racist.

The term "illegal alien" isn't racist in and of itself.

There are many racists, however, who use the term to denote Mexicans exclusively, and do not worry a whit about people here illegally from Canada,Ireland or many other places.

Does anyone buy this line of Gardener's ?

I sure don't.

A racist, denoting mexicans exclusively, will comment on the moistness of their dorsal surface, or perhaps mention frijoles.

A racist ain't gonna care about immigration status, he don't like legal ones either.

No, it's not racist...but it's certainly sad that it's an accurate term. I don't believe that people them selves should be "illegal"...makes them sound like something truly heinous, like cleavage on the television.

Well, we could more appropriately just call them criminals.

But, the word "illegal(s)" is just a shortened slang from the phrase "illegal alien" or "illegal immigrant".

Same here. There is no need to lump these differing groups together, as suchI would equally be offended by those who lump all the legals with the illegals, like some people commenting on the "Pizza for Pesos" program did, like some bigoted people who want to turn a legitimate duscission of securing our borders without completely killing legit immigration.

To call anyone who does nothing more than cross an invisible line without papers a criminal is as sad in my eyes as calling them a criminal.

It's not an invisible line, it's an international border and no one has the right to cross an international border without fully informing the governments that control that border.

I do. I frequently hear on the radio of how so-and-so went to a supermarket or a fast food restaurant and lamented how it was filled with illegal immigrants. How does the speaker know they are illegal? The unspoken "Mexican" is suddenly quite loud. It really happens all the time.

This is naive. When discussing illegal immigrants, one most often hears the discussion of Mexicans sneaking across the boarder, and how Mexico loves this, and how we need to build a wall and post more Minutemen on the Mexican border, etc...

Gardener's point is a valid one.

How is any of that racist? The overwhelming majority of illegal aliens *ARE* from Mexico, they *DO* sneak across the border, the Mexican government *IS* in full support of it and hates any U.S. legislation to stop it, we probably *DO* need a wall and guards and most especially harsh legislation to punish both the illegals and the employers of illegals.

How is acknowledging the facts racist in any way, shape or form?

Dood, I couldn't have said it better myself. Kudos!

An illegal alien is exactly what it says. A non citizen who is in a nation other than his own without proper documentation. There are Americans (literally thousands around the world) who are illegal aliens in the country they are in because they do not have the proper documentation to live and work in said country. So how can this term be racist. It is the explanation of a person who has committed a crime (minor or major depends on the viewpoint).

It becomes racist, for example, when you refer to an Hispanic illegal alien as a wetback or a wet.

Who are the illegal Hispanics is a far more interesting question. And it is a question that begs for an answer that includes racism but not racism on the US side but on the Mexican, Salvadorian or Guatemalan side. Take a good look at the facial features of 99% of the illegal Hispanics (a loose term) that are in the US. Do they look like the people who run Mexico or Guatemala? No really. What or who do they look like? They look like indigenous Americans which is a nice term for Indians. They are a powerful numbers group in Mexico (90% of the population is pure Amerindian and/or Mestizo). These people are discriminated against in their own countries and the power group would like nothing better than they go somewhere else. Guatemalans to Mexico and Mexican Indians to the US or anywhere but Mexico. If you discount this aspect of the southern border population movement then your understanding of the problem will not be complete.

As North Americans we may not consider this as the Indigenous or native American (what ever term you choose) is less than 1% of the nations population but in Mexico, Central American and northern South America this ethic group makes up a sizable portion of the population and is becoming a power block to be reckoned with by the more European looking power groups in those nations. This is part of the situation in Bolivia, Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador and is spreading to other areas where the Amerindian is beginning to realize his potential in his own land.
