So my girlfriend's PhD supervisor is quite possibly the most out of touch person I have ever met. He thinks that a loan of $500 is enough to live off of for three months. He also cancelled one of my girlfriend's bursaries for $2000 because she got another grant and "no longer needs it", the grant is for $28,000/year. He thinks that $28,000/year is enough to "live comfortably". The grant won't payout for a while and my girlfriend was counting on the money from the bursary.

For reference he is a fully tenured professor and comes from a very wealthy family and lives in a large home by himself. I told her the next time he says something like that tell him to live off that amount for a month and see how far he gets.

Buy yourself a semi and head for Ottawa.

It sounds like y'all are trying to live as capitalists up there. It's not working down here.
