We in the US have been cautioned to expect a possible 'second wave' of the Covid-19 disease in the autumn as people congregate indoors. The past two days' reports of new cases, coupled with the past several days' numbers of reported deaths, may be the first indications of what is to come. As with many trends hidden in 'noisy' data, this one may take time to prove out. It may also be little more than a quirk in the data. The next week should decide.

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

Difficult; trying to figure out if the second wave is simply what the virus does, naturally, or if the huge rise in rates of infection is due to the premature lifting of restrictions is a bit of a headache. Right now it appears that there are 50 different 'strategies' for dealing with it and no unified national directive.

The unwillingness of our {United States of America] federal administration, not to mention our federal legislators, to fully engage in ameliorating the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic here is lamentable. It's understandable, though, when you take into account the intertribal warfare between our two political parties and the strong anti-intellectual streak in the American public at large. It speaks also to our educational system, presently under attack by reactionary forces. We're experiencing something of a 'perfect storm' composed of pandemic, ignorance, ideology and greed for political power. The two major effects are dislocations within our economic structures and deaths among our citizens.

How this will play out at the polls remains to be seen.

Impossible. President Trump says the pandemic is already over.

Yep. Who knew that by ignoring the news, COVID 19 statistics, and pretending everyone who is sick with COVID 19 just has the common cold the pandemic would just disappear?
:)

Well, if Biden wins and it doesn’t happen, there are going to be a lot of disappointed people when they find out their job has gone due to a gutted workforce and 12 - 18 million naturalized, hungry immigrants begging for work at any wage.

Oh we are having a second wave. We will probably have a third one too. Regards stay safe and well. Remember A vote for Joe is a vote for no vaccine and perpetual masks and physical distancing.

Work at any wage, a pipe dream for right to work states.

According to some esteemed hoaxioneers (like that? :)), it will be over the day after the election because it was a Democrat conspiracy designed to destroy Trump's chances! Yes, they really believe that.

Hi!

The present 'White House' announces many things. Some are true. Some are not.

Regards, stay save 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

Well then, too bad for the people willing to believe the white house.

Methinks it's because the people in your country have worn masks since the getgo and they were sold a bill of goods that masks work.

Oh WAIT! they DO work.........to make people get sick from it thinking that masks "work" so they go into stores and other places where COVID is floating all over their heads and going right through their worthless masks that do NOT stop the smaller AIRBORNE water droplets that SCIENCE shows goes right through even surgical masks. IF Europe had been more like Sweden, Belarus and Manaus, they'd be far better off right now. Sadly, it's masks forever now in Europe, like Japan.

Sweden is seeing a spike in cases. Why do you continue to cite Sweden as some miracle in defeating Covid? We wear masks because, unlike some stupid Americans, we know they work in mitigating the transmission of the virus. But keep playing your dumb game which nobody else wants to play. You're on your own.
And by the way, until the idiotic decision was made to prematurely ease lockdown restrictions, our rates of infection were dropping through the floor. Or do you think it's mere coincidence that as soon as restrictions were lifted and bars, clubs, restaurants, schools and colleges reopened, cases started climbing again, inexorably?

WOW!!! I gotta say......that is by far, the BEST article I have ever seen written on masks, even if I am biased because it confirms everything I have been trying to teach these people here for months now. I have bookmarked it and will use it for future comments to the crowd of mask freaks here. Basically, it says that COVID is carried on smaller air droplets that are suspended in the air and that masks cannot stop them. No mask (that you can breathe in) stops particles that small. In any event, the article should be read by all. Thanks for finding it and posting it. I also have to look up that author when I have time.

There's a vaccine against flu. If people choose not to take advantage of it and get sick, whose fault is that but their own?
Yep, a vaccine that is less than 50% effective. I have NEVER, EVER had a flu shot.
