Do you think it is time to get these social parasites off the public dole?

BTW what is coperate welfare?

Why is a second thread on this being started when one already exists with a full discussion happening?

Where is that?

Ohhh... I apologize Gabriel. I misread the title. This thread is talking about corporate welfare. Didn't catch that. :)

What do you mean by unamerican?

Subsidizing the oil industry for example.. Clearly these are the most profitable companies on the planet .. why does the public have to give them even more money on top of all the profit they make by selling things they paid less for to the public? Or not paying for pollution like most everyone else does.

I don't agree with corporate welfare because the level it has arrived at mostly involves placing the burden of risk on the public even though the corporation can turn around and make private profits thanks to that money. Social welfare is different because it is the public paying and the public benefitting. Corporate welfare also has less accountability, but that's what happens when corporate executives either have seats in government or they are directly lobbying government with huge sums of money.

If corporate welfare means bailing out a failing business-hard to say. Chrysler was bailed out and what that meant was the workers didn't go on unemployment, the related businesses (such as a diner near the Chrysler factor) didn't go bankrupt etc. If corporate "welfare" means say the City of Cincinnati agrees to tax breaks so that Proctor and Gamble keeps its HQ in Cincinnati rather than moving it and 10,000 jobs to Atlanta, that is clearly a quid pro quo and not really welfare.

Libs whine about corporate welfare apparently to deflect the well deserved criticism that leftwingers have created and expanded the welfare class. Expanding jobs and so forth is hardly as pernicious as creating dependent dem voters who are a drain on society

define corporate welfare

Any grant or subsidy given to a corporation with taxpayers' money.

A huge recent example -- Obama's bailouts to the banks and auto companies.

Other examples:

Publicly funded industrial parks -- whether by federal, state or local funding.

Grants given by states, counties, or municipalities to corporations to build plants in the state or local area, obstensibly to create jobs. FACT: These create only a few jobs, and they often turn away the local people and bring in favored people from elsewhere who consume the jobs and salaries and also bring their families to consume the local public services. The local people who pay the taxes get screwed.

a generalization that is not particularly accurate.

Nonsense... Welfare has nothing to do with politics or the fed government. It's State, county, or city temporary assistance for people who can't find work for reasons they have no control over. Just be glad your not in the same boat.

Next time read up on it before you make a fool out of yourself.

yes it is; government has no business picking winners in the economy.

Obama had nothing to do with the bailout. It started before he was elected... Remember?

Dems can't blame Bush either because congress holds all the purse strings. Next time educate yourself before you make dumb statements again.

speaking of making a fool out of oneself--welfare has nothing to do with the federal government? are you really saying this? are you really saying politics has nothing to do with welfare or buying votes?

too bad you cannot edit your post

How about the millions ADM gets every year despite being profitable?

It's a bribe.

So Eisenhower was a leftwinger?

And Turtledude is once again incapable of addressing quotes with relevant statements nor answering simple questions. On to real news...

yeah that is true-Bush started it and Obama continued bailouts -both with dem congress

what would the libs have said about Bush if he had let those banks croak?

Wrong on both counts. TARP funding was done under the Bush Adminisration and the money was LOANED to the auto indusrty, most of which has already been repaid. Why is it that most "Libertarians" can't even get the basic facts correct?

what they are correct about is that the government had no proper business or authority to engage in such activity.

Of course.

Any kind of government-funded welfare is un-american. That includes corporate welfare.
