It's not a fairy tale..it's a fact. By the way, despite intense pressure from NASA and the DOD no one wants to fork over the bucks to pay for EMP shielding for our sattelites and the long term problem for the sattelites is the radiation. Most of our sattelites in low earth orbit are decades old anyway. I didn't say that 1 detonation would take out the country. I said 1 detonation would cripple our military for days, weeks, or possibly months and allow the enemy to take out the whole country.

No you actually said in a previous post that one detonation in space would destroy this whole world which is gravely inaccurate.

Also China isnt building mobility as they are more focused on defense instead of offense. They believe that they will need to defend themselves from Russia then America. Reason being is becasue they have always had border problems from the Mongolians and the Russians which is why they built the largest monstrocity known to man which is the Great Wall. At least this is what a Chineese foreign exchange student told me. Plus it does make sense.

Who is misquoting now? Here is what he said.
The fact that 1 nuclear detonation in the upper atmosphere could cripple our military in seconds is also a HUGE problem because our military communications would be completely cut off by the EMP and ultimate demise of our sattelites in low earth orbit. The list goes on and on
How did you get "destroy the whole world" out of that?
China knows, as do we and the Russians, that there is nothing to be gained by trying to conquer them. We barely have the capability to occupy Iraq, how could we occupy them? Or them occupy us? Most of the posturing and saber rattling done by all of the big 3 is done mostly for the political consumption of their own citizens. All of the big 3 leaders know that what makes sense is to get along with each other. BTW, the reason Nixon wanted to get in good with China was to worry Russia. It worked.

Dude, thatwasnt the post I was referring to. It was a different one back before you were on this forum.

I don't believe that we are the most powerful nation. Sure we have a lot of nuclear weaponry but the fact that it would ensure mutual destruction rules them out. One nuclear detonation in space or in the upper atmosphere and we're toast. Our intellectual standing is the result of international consulatation, our political influence has declined significantly, and the success of our economy is dependant on cooperation from the rest of the world. You can't be the most powerful nation on earth and be dependant on and interwined with every other nation for intellectual and economic achievment as well as essential resources ie oil.

This is the post I was referring to UTAHBILL see the bold print? Sounds pretty clear to me. What say you?

I saw that one, but "toast" isn't the same as the whole world being destroyed. I can eat toast!

I guess everyone has their own opinion. But it never specifies that. Although it doesnt specify my opinion of what it means it doesnt specify yours either. However, I think if he said were toast in concordance to an uper atmosphere explosion I think he really meant the the world would be toast. However, I could be wrong. :2wave:

When saying the most powerful nation in the world, its easy to go for the obvious and say nuclear weapons. While America does have the ability to decimate a country, the American military has shifted a lot of their nukes from bigger to smaller and more advanced packages. Its not just a matter of who can build the largest nuke (Russia built on under Lenin that would crate a shock wave 200 miles away from detonation), nowadays its more of how its delivered and the portability of the package.
America operates the largest navy in the world with the largest number of carriers which in themselves with their assortment of jets, cruisers, destroyers and subs and all are nuke run or on their way. A carrier battle group is the largest mobile strike force in the history of the world. We have at least four of these.
I think a true way of showing a countries superiority is to use everything BUT nuclear weapons. With our battle groups, Air Force capable of launching advanced munitions and the Army and Marine Corp's toughness on the ground, we are the strongest nation in the world.
Last but not least is America's ability to manufactor raw supplies for the building of new jets, tanks, ships, ect. America has already proven how capable we are when we fought WW2 on two fronts and out citizens saved and worked more hours for a victory in Europe and Japan

HALELUJAH!!!!!!! :2bow: This was a brilliant post. I commend you. :2wave:

I still don't think people under standand the nature of the term 'power.' One must first understand that power is the ability to have someone do what you want them to do even if it is not necessarily in their best interests. It's being able to bend the will of others to your gain. Once you understand the nature of the term power you must then differentiate b/w hard and soft power, hard power is the ability to force countries to do what you want either through military force or economic sanctions, soft power is being able to get people to do what you want or change the way a country behaves through things, such as a a superior culture. The U.S. is by far the most powerful nation in terms of both Hard and Soft Power.

Furthermore; there is absolutely no question at all whether or not the U.S. is the military and economic hegemon of this plannet. However, this can also have certain drawbacks; such as, the freerider syndrome in which other nations under our protection do not have to spend money on defense or technological development which enables them to spend money on other things; such as, social programs and education, also they don't have to spend money on R & D (research and development) because they can just copy our technology like China does. This has the effect that they grow stronger while we remain the same. This is why hegemony can never last forever it is not an indefinate reality that the U.S. will continue to maintain global supremacy unless we focus more on the education of the young especially in the science and technology fields, what this country needs is another Sputnik to galvonize our young and get them to get off the couch, put down the x-box controller, and pick up a ****ing book!

So maybe a better Q is if America is the most influential nation in the world.

Oh ya it's great being a genius  It's funny how the majority of people our age have their heads on straight I guess it's probably due to living through the Reagan era and then having Clinton in office for eight freaking years, from having a party in power that tryed to make you feel proud to be an American coupled with the exhaultation of winning the cold war then switching to having a party in office that almost made you ashamed because of their blame America first European socialist mantality.

I totally agree.

On a side note; we ****ing rock. Not that we don't occasionally mess-up, but on the whole, yeah, we ****ing rock.

Yep, you are right on. And its funny how people missed the common sense to understand what we know and understand. You know.... the liberals and socialists. Its funny how people think its always americas fault

being hated by the rest of the world PROVES we are the most powerful nation

USA

Why can America and these others countries have Weapons of Mass Destruction? I thought a treaty was signed saying every nation must get rid of them? How hipocritical is that? We have the biggest pro-war leader in the world. And they give him those kind of weapons? America may be the most powerful, but we're also the most arrogant. The media IS to blame for this. We think we're better than everyone, and have more freedoms. The truth is we don't. Have any of you ever been to other countries??? Germany and The UK have more freedoms than we do. Canada has more freedoms than we do. Americans by nature are the most aggresive people on this earth. This comes from arrogance. That is why it is legal to consume alchohol at age 16 to 18 in most countries. They can handle it. Americans think their ***** doesn't stink, and they can get away with anything. That's why most of the world hates us. To me, Holland possesses the best freedoms. You are able to live your life the way you want. You don't have to worry about police corruption or the government trying to suck every penny you earn out of you when you enter the penal system. You can do what you want in the privacy of your own home. And yet they have the lowest crime rate. Why do you think that is. Because most people there that are sane and try to make a living aren't stupid enough to leave their house when they are intoxicated. They look out for one another and value each others lives. America is built around money. The more you have the more you get away with. It's very sad. America has the largest encarceration percentage of any country in the world. Americans talk about patriotism and how they live in the greatest nation on earth. Sorry to tell you, we don't. If we are the richest nation, then why don't we recieve free health care like Canada? Because our government makes too much money off of it, and is too money-hungry to stop. Why can't we live the way we want and do as we want in the privacy of our own homes? Because the government makes too much money off of petty criminals while rapist and child molestors are free to roam the streets. This country is not a bad place to live, as long as you follow the governments rules. It is far from a democracy, and far from the freeest country on earth.

It's called the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and it says that countries with nukes will stop testing and building them and those without nukes will not try to build them every country except India Pakistan and Israel has signed it and that's why Iran is in violation of the treaty. And you equate tolerance of immorality with freedom you might get along well with Leopold and Lober you freaking degenerate. With freedom comes personal responsiblity which it seems the Europeans don't have.

Child porn is legal in Europe so much for your theory.

You're far from a genius my friend. You're how old ? Twenty three? Your not even old enough to have been competent during the Reagan administration...your cocky and arrogant is what you are. Both of you. Go to another country in this world...either Germany or Holland or even the UK and you will see how arrogant and stupid americans are. Americans are the most agrresive people in the world. We think we are the *****. We're not. There is reason our drinking age is 21 and the rest of the world is 18 or even less. The people in Germany are more peace loving and charismatic about humans in general than America will ever be. Why do you think we have the highest encarceration percentage in the world?? Hello...answer that boy-genius!! The reason others hate us is because of cocky attitudes like yourself. You don't live in a democracy. You live in a country where the government tells you what to do, and how to do it. You live in a country where the media shapes peoples lives. Where money is God and the freedom to do as you please in the privacy of your own home is outlawed. To ignore that shows how stupid your generation is. I can't believe the lives of Americans will someday be in your peoples hands. That is very scary!! Thank God it won't be for at least another 15 or 20 years. What your generation needs is what every generation before you has had. A good old fashioned a$$ beating...then we'll see how cocky you d*euche bags are.
