Is a stay at Home mother a job?

Is a stay at home mother working, as in a job?

You need police and teachers and firefighters. But at the same accord, a stay at home parent is provides a lot of added value to a family unit and, if aggregated to large enough numbers, society at large. If a household can manage a stay at home parent, I think it's best for the child to do so. Not everyone can, doesn't mean they'll have a bad household or they can't be good parents. But being able to dedicate one parent to the child full time, at least until such point that they enter school, really adds a lot to the family and the environment the children will grow up in.

If a child is involved then a stay at home mother is important. If not then a teacher or fire fighter is more important. We need the later. We do not need the former. That is the difference. Stay at home mothers do a service... they do not have a job that qualify as a job, much less important to anybody other than that kid in question.

It depends upon what she's doing or not doing.
If she just slacks off all day, then it's not a job, but if she does things like cleaning, food preparation, childcare, homeschooling, taking out the trash, etcetera, then it is a job.
