Would you describe these groups as primarily political in nature?
• Bus for Progress, a New Jersey non-profit that uses a red, white and blue bus to "drive the progressive change." According to its website, its mission includes "support (for) progressive politicians with the courage to serve the people's interests and make tough choices." It got an IRS approval as a social welfare group in April 2011.
• Missourians Organizing for Reform and Empowerment says it fights against corporate welfare and for increasing the minimum wage. "It would be fair to say we're on the progressive end of the spectrum," said executive director Jeff Ordower. He said the group got tax-exempt status in September 2011 in just nine months after "a pretty simple, straightforward process."
• Progress Florida, granted tax-exempt status in January 2011, is lobbying the Florida Legislature to expand Medicaid under a provision of the Affordable Care Act, one of President Obama's signature accomplishments. The group did not return phone calls. "We're busy fighting to build a more progressive Florida and cannot take your call right now," the group's voice mail said
they got their approval as little as 9 months.
the IRS approved 65 liberal groups. during the same time frame they only approved 3 conservative groups
Not one conservative group got denied so they couldn't even make an appear. they was just left in limbo for over 27 months and most are still waiting
From the descriptions you've provided, probably not. They sound like they promote "social welfare," and if they don't advance a particular candidate they're okay.shouldn't these groups received extra scrutiny?

so advocating Obama and liberal policies is not political, but advocating conservative policies and protesting Obama and liberal policies is?From the descriptions you've provided, probably not. They sound like they promote "social welfare," and if they don't advance a particular candidate they're okay.

Are those not Obama policies? They don't advocate Obama, they advocate "social welfare" polices such as Medicaid, PPACA and the minimum wage.
Yes, they're some of his policies, but certainly not all of them. These organizations are not permitted to campaign for him, they advocate policies that help lower income people. Are those not Obama policies?
you cant say advocating for higher taxes and bigger government isn't political, but advocating for lower taxes and smaller government is
i was assuming you was replying to me because I also asked the same question and made a list of liberal groups that were definitely political in nature and they received their approval. So i apologize

what you are failing to do is prove did any of those Tea party groups campaigned for any candidate?Yes, they're some of his policies, but certainly not all of them. These organizations are not permitted to campaign for him, they advocate policies that help lower income people.
IRS higher-ups requested info on conservative groups, letters show - Open Channel
drip drip drip
And up the ladder it goes
Remember it took a year into the Watergate scandal before Nixon was forced out of office
I want this to be long, slow, and painful for this administration
would you please post that list of "liberal" groups and share with us how you KNOW that they are, in fact, liberal
The IRS approved charitable status for the foundation, which was run by President Obama’s brother and named after his father, in about a month’s time. The IRS also agreed to give the group this important financial status retroactively, back to 2009, when it had begun its fundraising.
The 34 days the IRS’s Cincinnati office took to process the foundation’s application stands in contrast to the waits of several months — and sometimes longer than a year — that several conservative groups say they experienced with the same office. Obama has apologized, saying Americans have a right to be angry that the office improperly targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny.
You WANT this to be national debilitating scandal?
How is THAT good for America?
Or are your interests something different?
what you are failing to do is prove did any of those Tea party groups campaigned for any candidate?
They didn't, because none got denied they was just put in limbo for over 27 months.
they was target because of them endorsing opposing policies of the presidents
wrongIn February of this year I got a letter from the IRS stating that I owed $27,000 in unpaid taxes from 2011.
In 2011 I had sold about $75,000 worth of stock and used the money for a remolding project at my home. The sale was reported to the IRS and separately, my initial investment cost for the stock(this is all money that I'd already payed taxes on. Nothing pre-tax) was also provided to them. They failed to connect the sale to the initial purchase and immediately billed me for taxes on $75,000 of income that wasn't actually income. It was pretty much the same thing as if I had taken the money out of a savings account. But because it is the IRS we are talking about, I was presumed guilty and they gave me about 2 weeks to pony up 27 grand or face penalties and interest. I ended up having to go back to my accountant and they had to file an amended return for 2011. It cost me a little over $600 for them to do this. I ended up actually getting back $175 from the federal government because it turned out that the stock that I sold had lost a little of it's initial value.
The bottom line is that the IRS wields an incredible amount of power. They can pull crap like this whenever they want and there is no such thing as "due process" when they target you. So when you hear about them being involved with targeting groups for political reasons it ought to scare the hell out of everyone. Any defense of their activities in this scandal is nothing more than a shameless display of partisanship.
Just stop it. You're embarrassing yourself. The fact there was a double standard is not in dispute. The fact that religious groups, jewish groups, and conservative groups were specifically targeted for Gestapo tactics is NOT IN DISPUTE.
IRS stalled conservative groups, but gave speedy approval to Obama foundation - Washington Post
what about that says it is engaged in political elections activities?... the Barack H. Obama Foundation sought tax-exempt status to raise money for good works in Kenya ...
would you please post that list of "liberal" groups and share with us how you KNOW that they are, in fact, liberal
the information and numbers came from a Washington post analysis of IRS data they did not give a list

That's what isn't good for America
Why you libs insist on

I want the truth, but I am hopeful that the truth is that this is an isolated scandal. I don't WANT the President or anyone in his administration to be involved.
I can't imagine how anyone who cares about the country would WANT that to be the case.
I would suspect they had a different agenda than what is good for the country.
If you are all about the truth you wouldn't care where it leads. the truth has no bias. you do
You mean the list that lumps religious groups like the Progressive Baptist Church, medical groups like the "Progressive Care Center", and political 527's and compares them to politically activist 501(c)(4)'s? You mean the list Fox News completely misrepresented? The one that also mentions 47 groups with patriot or constitution that were approved during the time that 3 'conservative' were approved?the information and numbers came from a Washington post analysis of IRS data they did not give a list

"Groups with the word “progressive” in their names suffered no similar slowdown. The number of approvals for those groups increased each year, from 17 in 2009 to 30 in 2012, the data show."
Groups that sought tax-exempt status say IRS dealings were a nightmare - Washington Post
it is very safe to assume groups with "progressive" in thier name are liberal
i asked for the list of 65 LIBERAL organizations you said you had compiled, and i asked for information about how they were determined to be LIBERAL
you did not respond to that request
thus, i must conclude your post was a lie, otherwise you could easily have submitted the list of LIBERAL organizations and explained how they were found to be LIBERAL
just more made up bull **** because you have nothing else to use to slam the president
how you cited the Obama organization
let's look at how your referenced articled referenced that now non-profit entity:
what about that says it is engaged in political elections activities?
of course it sailed thru on the merit of the information contained in the application. if you read the IG report it explained that there were a number of MERIT exemptions for that reason
now, a distinction needs to be made
that Obama organization was approved as a 501c3
what is in dispute was those applying for 501c4
there is a significant distinction between the two, and that distinction is salient to this conversation
When September 2012 arrived with still no word from the IRS, Ryun determined that Media Trackers would likely never obtain standalone nonprofit status, and he tried a new approach: He applied for permanent nonprofit status for a separate group called Greenhouse Solutions, a pre-existing organization that was reaching the end of its determination period.
