Iraqi president slams Trump's remarks about staying in Iraq

Iraq's president hit back at Donald Trump Monday for saying U.S. troops should stay in Iraq to keep an eye on Iran, saying the U.S. leader did not ask for Iraq's permission to do so.

"We find these comments strange," said Barham Salih, speaking at a forum in Baghdad.

Salih said U.S. troops were in Iraq as part of an agreement between the two countries and with a specific mission of assisting in the fight against the Islamic State group and combatting "terrorism." He said the Iraqi constitution forbids the use of Iraq as a base to threaten the interests or security of neighboring countries.

COMMENT:-

How DARE!!! he tell the President of the United States of America that the US cannot use Iraq as a potential base for attacking Iran. Does he think that Iraq is some sort of an "independent and sovereign nation" or something?

On the other hand, it doesn't look like the Iraqis are going to tell the US government to have all the American troops out of Iraq before the 2020 elections so the Republicans will be able to blame whomever the next President of the United States of America for "losing Iraq" the way that they blamed President Obama for complying with the troop withdrawals negotiated by President Bush.

(Unless, of course, Mr. Trump is re-elected - in which case the Republicans will simply declare victory and go home.)

Y'all would think those Iraqis would thank us for getting their population reduced to a more manageable number. No gratitude. We cleanin' up the oily mess all over that place. Now we even willing to make them a military target of their goombahs in Tehran. Just splain that we've turned the EU into a Russian target and they be keepin' up wi' da' Jones's and the Malikis. Then remind that we got another CIA sponsored individual that about to declare himself President any day now. After all the USA is all about spreadin' that democracy, or not?????

I imagine a lot of us saw this coming. Trump says we're withdrawing. The entire world tells him not to do so. Trump says Iran is an existential threat to the US. His own intelligence leaders say he's wrong. So surprise! We're staying in Iraq not for the reasons that the entire thinking world realizes, but because Trump's skin is so thin that a gentle summer breeze bruises him.

Staying in Iraq?

Possibly.

Staying in Iraq if the Iraqis tell Mr. Trump to get the US troops out of Iraq because he is contemplating doing something that violates the Iraqi constitution?

Possibly.

Looking like global idiots by staying in Iraq if the Iraqis tell Mr. Trump to get the US troops out of Iraq because he is contemplating doing something that violates the Iraqi constitution?

Possibly.
