Seeing how ineffective Iraqi troops are to date, I don't think Iraq will ever be able to defend itself against the insurgency. I personally think that after the US pulls out, a good portion of the Iraqi military will desert and join the ranks of Shiite and Sunni militias and Iraq would be in conflict for a long period of time.

Can anyone prove to me that if the U.S. pulls out that the Iraqi government will survive?

No. One might as well ask for proof that the Iraqi military will remain steadfast. What will happen will be a direct result of what their culture demands. If Iraq falls into a state of Civil War, then Iraqis will have failed themselves. But then again, even America had to have a Civil War to unite the country. America will be just fine. We can leave and deal with future issues as they appear. But it is doubtful that the Middle East will ever recover from a failed Iraq that spirals into a devistating chaos over passed down traditions of hate and racism.

All we can do is provide a bicycle. It's up to them to take off the training wheels.

I don't get it. How can a poorly equiped militia be any match to US backed army. It seems weird.

They aren't a match. They are slaughtered where ever they take a stand. What you are referring to as a "match" is their ability to continue to exist. This is easily explained simply by reviewing history. Also, we have to consider the nature of our enemies. People confuse their acts as resistance, when it is really just gangster terrorism. They emerge to slaughter civilians and then sneak back into their holes. If they are caught, they use their own people as human shields. In other words, they have absolutely no restrictions where the U.S. backed Army is trying to function under our rules of "humane warfare" - a term that has allowed us to forget how to win wars. Our enemies have an entire world to hide in and a world full of targets. Those in Iraq are no different. This is a war of attrition. They only need to outlast us to win. Our impatience and our willingness to tuck tail and run will be their victory.

Training humans that have been brought up in our civilation and using that same training for humans from another civilization will not and do not have the same result. If you want something more specific then ask away. I can get you answers.

In My Opinion, it really makes little difference when we leave as it will allow all Hell to break loose regardless of the timeline. The Tribal influences prevelant in Iraq, make Civil War inevitable when they are truly free to be themselves.
This is the underlying frustration I feel about this "War"....we cannot force a democracy on these people, unless we are willing to hold hands for the unforseeable future and watch alot more Americans Die. Anyone understanding, or willing to look at the history of this region knows full well what the future holds for Iraq. Truth is....Iraq was once the closest thing to western culture in the area...short of Bahrain.

amen.

I like to think of it as AMerica fighting a gentler, kinder war.

a PC war if you will.

Its a huge mistake on our part.
