So last week they're bragging about thier new missle and this today they're talking about how they've enriched uranium. Is this a joke? I wonder how long the UN security will ponder over this one.

"UN Security" Isn't that an oxymoron? Just ask the people in Darfur what they think of "UN Security" or anything regarding the UN for that matter...

Hopefully their decision on THIS ONE won't have been preemptively purchased by THIS terror-sponsor with sweetheart oil field deals and bribes in the form of $10/barrel oil. ;)

I prefer unilateralism to being subject to a bought process.

Down...down...down...Iran is going down.

Sooner or later they are going to push this too far. With the international community in agreement, they are playing with fire. This is the time when we will see the strength or weakness of our "allies." From here forward, they will either raise their fists safely next to Uncle Sam or they will begin the appeasment process and slowly look for others take care of this in their absence.

Let the bets begin.

They don't really need to provoke us do they. I would assume we're all aware of the potential of a nuclear equipped Iran? No they won't bomb us, though they have a record for supporting terrorists to do so, but nuclear Iran would be untouchable due to the M.A.D. principle, and could then set about imperialist ambition across the middle-east and Africa. They are already (allegedly) a driving force in the Iraqi insurgency. Do your reading, the principle of dar al Islam (Territory of Islamic rule). An Islamic superpower anyone?

For MAD to work, all parties must believe that their home countries will be irrevocably or all-but destroyed. Unfortunately, the mullahs don't believe, or even fear, this. Check google for Khomeini's and Ahmendanijad's comments on this if you have doubts.

A religous cult that hates Jews and Christians with an atomic bomb. Nice. Meanwhile the liberals will continue their appeasement and throw their energy at the administration. Nice.

Exactly.

The threat from Iran is not necessarily a nuclear launch. It is the extremists groups that will have the ability to receive munitions from an Islamic state that frequents the use of terror around the world.

In spite of its undercover nature, Iran’s worldwide involvement in international terrorism cannot always be concealed. Occasionally, events come to light that are proof of Iranian government's involvement in terrorist activities. For instance, the March 1996 discovery, in Belgium, of a specially-built Howitzer canon sent by ship from Iran to Germany to be used in a terrorist attack; or the involvement of the highest Iranian officials in the assassination of Kurdish leaders in Germany, the so-called "Mikonos Affair."

The Islamic regime’s determination to continue supporting terrorism, in conflict with normal international behavior, has forced the Iranian Foreign Ministry to strive, under extreme international pressure, to offset the damage caused by their policy to Tehran’s economic and political ties. Iran does not deny its adherence to Khomeini’s "Islamic revolutionary ideology”, which supports all radical Islamic movements worldwide, but stresses that Iranian assistance is merely "cultural, moral and humanitarian in nature."

The only change that did occur in Iranian support of terrorism in recent years has essentially been a tactical one. Behind the scenes, Iran took steps to adjust its terrorist policy to the circumstances in the international arena—which is less tolerant of this type of activity—making sure its own actions could not be perceived as international terrorism. Iran replaced the direct involvement of Iranian agents in terrorist acts with that of proxy organizations—the most prominent being Hezballah, a central player in Iran’s terror strategy outside the Middle East as well. Iran also makes use of local terrorist units, (for example in Turkey and Azerbaijan), which it trains and sometimes even commissions to carry out terrorist acts against common enemies.

I'm not sure I follow you. I'm sure that Iran's leaders don't fear M.A.D., what I'm saying is that M.A.D. would prevent the West from limiting Iranian expansion. If Iran could shoot back with nuclear weapons, the US and EU have no military trump card short of full-scale, high-intensity urban warfare (call it WW3 if you like), hugely costly to us (see Iraq, though that's certainly not full-scale at the moment) and thus politically untenable (see Vietnam). That would logically allow Iran to do as it pleases in it's own back yard, hence expansionism. And Khomeini's been dead in the ground for a while now, that's one we don't need to worry about.;)

Their mindset is to raise the Persian Empire to its rightful place in the world. Kinda like the Third Reich. Here we go again.

*yawn*

So, what happened to good ol' Commie North Korea and their nukes? A couple of years ago, Kim Jong-Il was the new Hitler. Got bored with him?

Meh. Despite the comments made by our government and the sentiments of people who knew no better, North Korea was never a threat. They are not blinded by a religion. They just bark every once in a while to let us know that they are there.

What is fascinating about this is how much of it is based on myth. Khomeini frequently referenced the glory days of Persia under Cyrus the Great. However, he twisted this proud and glorious history into what would fit his vision of a brutalized Islam.

Oh, sorry, misunderstood your point a bit. Agree with the way that you have re-stated it - thanks for doing so.

Khomeini's has been planted for quite a while, but some of his rantings live on, especially with his almost-namesake, Khameini (sp?).

Enrichment does not automatically equate to weaponization. Israel has a deep and abiding interest in directing intelligence efforts against Tehran. Thus, I think Israel's picture of the Iranian nuclear program is more complete than ours. The world can be certain that Iran has not yet stepped over Israel's redline; after all, Tehran is still a city, not a crater.
( In other words, I think Israel is going to take care of things for us.)

Werd. This goes farther than an islamic state, in the case of Iran and Iraq, both countries have strong nationalistic pride the Iraqi ba'ath party said that the three tinngs god never should have created were jews, persians and flies. While the Iranians yern for a persian empire of thier own, remeniscent of that of Darius I.

So the USSR was never a threat?

The USSR made attempts to spread their ideology all over the world. They even tried to use a little island off of the coast of Florida to park nuclear warheads. Let's not forget that they also were a super power. Of course, they were a threat. North Korea, as I've always said (typed), is just a little country trying to be a grown up. As long as the U.S. military and the ROK Marines continue to wave at them from the southern border and China continues to stand over them...they aren't a threat.
