The convoy of nine ships which reportedly includes an Iranian destroyer, could be attempting to ferry weapons to the Houthi rebels in Yemen. Iran says this convoy is part of an anti-piracy campaign. On April 1, a US Navy warship consenually boarded a Panamanian cargo ship bound for Yemen. An Iranian ship currently docked in Oman is being watched for signs of weapons-transfer. There are Egyptian and Pakistani warships patrolling the waters off Yemen. It is unknown what may happens if the Iranian convoy attempts to dock in Yemen.April 18 2015
Iran is sending a small armada of naval vessels toward Yemen, sparking concern among U.S. defense officials that a naval conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia could escalate the Yemen conflict from a proxy war into a full-scale international conflict, according to media reports.

Smelling like a full blown proxy war.

This could get ugly fast if the Iranian ships attempt to break the coalition blockade.

Proxy? We could hardly let the Saudis stand alone.
Our "allies" in the region need live fire training just as much as we do. Actually, having worked with the Saudi's before, they need it a lot more than we do.
If anyone has an interest in the Region, then having them actively participate is a good thing. It is their region after all. Even third string players need playing time and considering the level of the competition, why should we put in the 1st team players?
Air time to where the ports /ships are from Saudi should not take long, if needed.

Took a minute to catch that one. lolIt's not just the Iranians that they have to worry about. That Irish Bastard Murphy can be a real pain in the ass too. The experience should do them good.
Yeah I was thinking of that to, JF. :2wave: The Iranians won't have no Air Cover for their ships.
Saudi's buy the best kit but no experience.
Taking the battle to Yemen in certain areas they will do fine.
Now city block to block, no experience.
And stay away from the mountains.
Detailed Terrain Map of Yemen

Looks like that destroyer probably carries four anti-aircraft missiles that are a copy of the early version of our Standard. Considering that U.S. destroyers carry something like 60-80 of the much more advanced version, that is awfully thin air defense. And Iran's destroyer probably has even less defense against advanced anti-ship missiles and torpedos. Iran would not have dared deploy ships like this if we had a real president. Even conspicuously diverting a single U.S. attack submarine to the waters near Yemen might have made it seem too risky. But the Islamist thugs in Tehran know they have nothing to fear from President Neville.
sure we can. they leave us standing alone all of the time when there are conflicts in the Americas. what are they doing to help us with the drug gangs that have taken over large areas in Mexico?

The Saudis have both the Egyptians and the Pakistanis helping them. They shouldn't need us.
Heya Wiggen :2wave: We have jumped in to help with some refueling of their planes and some Recon. BO is sending some aid to them. That's about as far as he is going to go.

And as far as he should.
Yemen has been a crap hole for how many decades.
Let them kill each other, and we stay away.
