An Iowa congressman has proposed legislation that would block Harriet Tubman from replacing President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill.Republican Rep. Steve King introduced an amendmentto bar the Treasury Department from spending any funds to redesign paper money or coin currency.

If the amendment is enacted, it would nullify the Treasury Department's plans to replace the current image of Jackson on the $20 bill with a portrait of Tubman, one of the most prominent abolitionists for her work in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. She would become the first black woman ever to appear on a U.S. banknote.
King's reason for introducing the amendment was not immediately clear, and his office did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment.

He is at least a ****ing asshole....

Just remember: behind every politician is a group of constituents that voted for him.

One of the most salient and simultaneously damning things about our country.

The lunatics in Congress reflect the electorate who put them there.

Why does this make him an asshole? People are not allowed to disagree with this now?

Whats the reasoning for disagreeing with such decision?

How would I know. You would have to ask him. But you didn't do that, you just called him an asshole because he didn't bow to the liberal emotional blackmail. For my part, I would rather see Frederick Douglass or MLK on the $20 if that is the direction we are going.

I don't object to changing the Bill. I do think there are a lot more pressing issues in society and the funds spent on this could be better used fixing those others problems. I am interested in Rep Kings reason

Well, maybe you should wait for a response before you resort to name calling...

There is no good reason to oppose Tubman's appearance on the $20 bill. Unless King is a time traveler or is immortal and therefore knows something insidious about Tubman that we do not.

His reasoning was so precedent that he had to block something without giving a reasoning to do so! :lamo

Why is there no good reason? Because you say so? Frankly, I see no good reason why Sacagawea should be on the $1 coin. I think we should put Tubman on the $1 coin and Frederick Douglass on the $20 and anyone who disagrees with me is a racist, sexist asshole.

Right. Hilarious. Get back to me when you have something of substance to say

Yes, that must be it. King actually wanted Tubman to be on a $1 coin, and didn't feel comfortable expressing that.

Sure.

Steve King is to the GOP as the crazy drunk uncle is to a family Thanksgiving meal - we all cringe when his head pops up and he starts to talk, because, although we don't know what he'll say, we can be sure that whatever it is, it'll be bat**** crazy and embarrass the hell out of us.

Harriet Tubman is a great choice for the $20 bill.

Well, we have to have a black person on a bill, so that goes to the twenty, they say. What they don't say is why?

Then we need to caugh up women, because a twofer can't count. We need Mexicans, Chinese, Japanese, Cubans, gays, trans, etc. blacks are pretty much "Yesterday's news" after Tubman gets her slot.

Why? Does someone actually think I care who is on a bill? Just make a commorative bill and put a different mug one each one every five years, and save us the grief.

Let me literally quote: "King's reason for introducing the amendment was not immediately clear, and his office did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment."

Whats the reasoning from King?

Some of us are waiting to find that out while others have already decided the reason. It Will most likely be a STUPID reason but I will at least allow him to explaine before I judge.

Your insistence that King's motive is anything but benign reflects poorly on you. My take is that King is a time traveler from the future, and only he knows that if Tubman is put on the $20 bill it will start a chain of events that will result in evil murder-robots enslaving the human race.

Your apology is accepted.

Its so good, we couldnt even get one!

Well if he offered another scenario like that I don't think his objection would be as controversial. To do what he did with no explanation deserves derision. You of course can disagree. I do like this particular description "King is a well know caustic and pustuled anal sphincter masquerading as a human."

In all fairness Steve King has been a lunatic asshole his entire adult life.
