Internal memo accuses Sheriff Arpaio's department of wrongdoing The Arizona lawman's No. 2 man and other top officials are accused of using the anti-corruption unit to conduct politically motivated investigations and to surveil campaign rivals. - Los

Reporting from Denver — Top officials in the office of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio used its anti-corruption unit to conduct politically motivated investigations, misled the public about a campaign fund that helped Arpaio win reelection and surveilled the Arizona lawman's campaign rivals, according to an internal memo from a high-ranking officer.

Curious, not a jab, but will Joe still have the same support if the prove there is proof of the above allegations? Man is innocent until proven guiltly?

Those accusations him are nothing new. When you do not coddle inmates and are tough on illegals the pro-criminals out there will seek any means necessary including lying to try to bring him down. The only way that man will stop being sheriff is if the voters stop voting for him or he gets too old to work and retires. Although once the pro-criminals realize that bogus accusations of intimidation and rights violations against him do not work I suspect they will try to use his age against him, say he is too old to be sheriff, and try to pass age restrictions of certian elected offices and so on.

Actually, it is his second in command that came under fire. Yes, I know that the Sheriff is responsible for the action of his staff. I am in a wait and see approuch on this. If true and Joe was involved or knew, my respect/opinon of him would definately change. If not true, then am curious of the motivation behind the memo.

It amazes me that two of the Maricopa county supervisor (Wilcox, ?), have come out wanting the FBI to investigate to ensure the air is cleared. In the past, when Wilcox came under fire (destroying historical house, finance questions?), there was no need for any real investigatiion. IMO, I hope we can get a new group of supervisors for Maricopa county. IMO, Wilcox does not serve the whole county well.

James, honest question not a jab, if his actions lead to criminal convictions, are those support this man coddling a criminal?

It's the tired old Liberal line of attack. Can't beat the person in elections, can't stop him with negative media... investigate and start throwing out wild charges on the flimsiest of data.

Is it possible someone, somewhere in that office did somethings wrong? Sure. Doesn't mean HE knew about it, but that doesn't matter in this kind of investigation. They might find a clerk was downloading child porn and the headlines would read "Sheriff Arpaio condones child porno".

I agree with you, in my view Maricopa County elected officials involved in this issue all need to be removed.

Munnell's motivation is also questionable. Is he like a rat trying to flee a sinking ship? I also question why Joe put Hendershot in power, in hopes that he had a scape goat if his house of cards collapsed? Lastly, does this make Joe look like a puppet and in essense had no power? All curious question.

Because Joe does not coddle criminals and is tough on illegals he basically has a target painted on him by every pro-criminal group out there ranging from the pro-illegals who do not want Joe doing his job to the scumbag sympathizers who think inmates should have luxuries . So I have to wonder how legit these accusations and complaints against him or his department are. So I have no reason to believe the accusations against him are true. This is kind of like the little boy who cried wolf.

Sorry, there is nothing liberal about AZ. Maricopa County is a bastillon of GOP, Libertarians, Conservatives, and Media. Secondly, the matter was not initiated by the media, it was initiated by high ranking official in his office. The media has tried to present these issues concerning Joe, but he is loved too much by his flock, so to make a story more credible, it has to come from within.

I don't agree, he is loved by too many to get this label by the media. Joe is a media clown, he uses the media to his advantage, so you need something bigger then the media to prosecute this man.

IMHO I think his power is soooo grand, that the Obama Administration is to chicken to release indictments against him and his cronies because it is too close to the elections and the media would portray Obama as picking on Joe. This is how the beloved conservative media portrayed Obama when Brewer/1070 was sued.

God I wish we had true politicians that had balls to prosecute wrong doing instead of media clowns and spinless democrats. Sorry had to get that in there, I feel better now.

I want the truth, and everyone else should to. So my point is that if he did something wrong, bring it forward and let him have his day. If he is innocent let him be, if not punish him. In other words, enough talk, either crap or get off the pot.

No. But I did hear someone pressed charges of sexual harassment (not the Bob Packwood kind), and Clinton went into court, and lied under oath in an attempt to deny someone their day in court.

I did hear about that. I also heard he lost his law license and was fined for it too.

His actions, his lies, his consequences.

The man was corrupt and should have been prosecuted. Any politian that is corrupt should be. It was ridiculous when dems and liberal protected him. If conservatives protect their corrupt politians, they are no better.

I hope you boys feel the same way about Joe Sestak, Romanoff and Obama. But Dems don't seem too interested in violations of law in this instance.

Strange dontcha think?

Zim, if they are corrupt, get rid of them. Obama and the dems will be voted out, because they suck, not soo much because they are corrupt.

I'd be careful believing something, anything coming from Yvonne (Wing-it)Wingett...From the Phenix New Times Blog concerning her....

Hey, Wing-It, the Hendershott rumor mill may not be the best place to score blog items.

Journalism is, like, hard n' stuff. You've got to make a phone call occasionally, verify these pesky things called "facts." Hey, who has the time? Not Yvonne "Wing-It" Wingett, or at least not with this little bagatelle she typed up for the Arizona Republic's Political Insider blog. In it, Wing-It claimed, "The New Times ad reps are apparently courting the newspaper’s Public Enemy No. 1 – a hot shot at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office."

Specifically, she was talking about Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Chief Deputy David Hendershott, who apparently has taken time off from his trips to Honduras' Bay Islands, to start a restaurant in Glendale's Westgate City Center, called Paparone's. According to Wing-It, New Times ad reps had been hitting up Paparone's, offering Super Bowl tickets if the Italian eatery would sign with us. Wing-It quoted her primary source as chuckling over the alleged irony.

"They’ve come in every week, according to the managers," Hendershott said, laughing. "They’ve been offering Super Bowl tickets if we sign up for a year’s worth of advertising with them. Why in the word would I pay the New Times for press? We’ve been getting free press from them for the last 15 years," he said, alluding to the nasty relationship between the paper and the Sheriff’s Office.

Funny stuff, huh? Well, except for the fact that it's total bull****. Wing-It later updated her blog post with an e-mail from New Times publisher Kurtis Barton, who pointed out New Times doesn't have any Super Bowl tickets to give out as perks, nor have New Times ad reps hit up Paparone's, as Hendershott was claiming.

Arizona Republic Reporter Yvonne "Wing-It" Wingett flubs gossip nugget on New Times and MCSO Chief Deputy David Hendershott. - Phoenix News - Feathered Bastard

Apparently this woman runs with any rumor as long as it fits her viewpoint on things...forget pesky things like actual facts, or verifiable sources.....Right?

When the pro-criminals have tried similar tactics against Joe numerous times its hard for any accusations against him to sound credible. So if he is actually doing any wrong doing and getting away with it you have the pro-criminals to thank for crying wolf so many times.

I don't agree, he is loved by too many to get this label by the media. Joe is a media clown, he uses the media to his advantage, so you need something bigger then the media to prosecute this man.

What a load of crap. The media is full of pro-criminals who hate his ass, the reason why this story is in LA times instead of major news outlets is because they do not want to look foolish reporting another bogus story and would be giving this man more publicity. When the media air stories about Joe it is to try to give him negative publicity, hope that the voters are stupid enough to blame Joe for the lawsuits instead of the scumbag sympathizers with ulterior motives for filing them, and hope that maybe someone with more authority than Joe removes Joe. So it is the medias fault Joe has publicity in the first place, the just didn't count on the fact it would backfire on them. Most Americans do not think inmates should have luxuries while in jail or prison and probably wish their county had a sheriff like Joe.

IMHO I think his power is soooo grand, that the Obama Administration is to chicken to release indictments against him and his cronies because it is too close to the elections and the media would portray Obama as picking on Joe. Fox and talk radio would try to portray it as Obama picking on Sheriff Joe Arpaio, but the media in general would not. Sheriff Joe did not become sheriff the second Obama became president so Obama could have tried any and everything to remove Sheriff Joe the second he became president and midterms where a year or two away.

Did you hear? Clinton lied under oath, and accepted donated Chinese money for missile technology. Its a crime he wasn't swinging from a rope for that

He lied under oath, and was married, and was abusing his position over a young vulnerable woman. Oh that's right, you don't care about women.

Who would you elect as sheriff?

I'd say lets just wait until more information comes out. Until then, I would assume this accusation is a hoax that is from someone most likely supporting illegal aliens or have a grudge against Joe Arpaio.

Please allow me to direct you to most any primary run off; but especially Bush v McCain in SC circa 2000.

What Bush did to McCain in the 2000 S. C. primary

I believe Karl "The Architect" Rove fine tuned the "nasty" campaign strategies we see way too much these days.
One side has no corner on this behavior but the right have it down to an art form.
