This is a good article for people who loosely throw that card out to read. Doing so does a disservice to the discussion on genuine racism. Falsely branding people with that label is little better than actual racism itself.
FTR, I think hating an entire group based on race is idiotic. People should be given a chance based on individual merit, or lack thereof.
I was expecting that article to define what racism actually is and point out how the definition has been expanded way beyond it's scope in recent years for mostly political reasons... Instead, the author seemed to give validity to the new definitions that have been created through the lens of political correctness. I found it rather disappointing.
In the article, it links to another piece that claims to define "racism", but gives credence to the false, contrived PC definitions. Here's a few examples taken from
that article that I strongly disagree with:
It’s also worth noting that in response to living in a racially stratified society, people of color sometimes complain about whites. Typically, such complaints serve as coping mechanisms to withstand racism rather than as anti-white bias. Even when minorities are actually prejudiced against whites, they lack the institutional power to adversely affect whites’ lives.
What that is in effect saying, is that minorities who display prejudice against white people (the dictionary definition of racism) aren't racist... Only white people can be racists. That is a load of BS.
Then there's this on reverse racism:
"...as minorities become more prominent in society, more whites will argue that minorities are biased. Because people of color will surely gain more power over time, get used to hearing about “reverse racism.”
Now the author implies that many white people will falsely claim a minority to be a racist, out of fear that they are losing the racial majority and the power that goes along with it. He also implies that the term is predominantly white people complaining about affirmative action and social welfare programs.
The author seems to find reasons to dismiss accusations of racism when they are leveled toward a minority, but expands the definition when it's a white person who is being labeled as such. Needless to say, I was not impressed with the article, or it's author.
