This actually points to a reason not to have a one- sport- fits- all answer to the Trans athlete question. Different sports have very different levels of physical athleticism ie strength and speed in a successful equation. Some are very dependent on those two testosterone dependant attributes, and others require more balance, hand-eye coordination, judgement, technical skill, creativity, teamwork, concentration, flexibility, vision acuity etc. The best place to start this search for a compromise is with the player associations who will best be able to quantify how much of an advantage strength and speed will be, compared to the rest of the package, and weigh the likelyhood this will be a significant issue or not considering how few trans athletes there are likely to be in the upper echelons of the sport.
 
Starting figure skating at age 50 isn't easy and it takes courage to start at that age, we all we courage to perform at the European Championships with no possibility to be even competative.

I think the issue in this case is special dispensation simply because they declared themselves trans, in essence changing the performance bar for the mere declaration of being trans. Either there are consistent standards which apply, or there aren't. Seems like figure skating just nuked their standards?

Ridiculous. A man pretending to be a woman, and he/she is given the change to participate in something they have no qualifications for simply because of the Trans uproar. It's embarrassing to realize this it he madness we have come to.
 
The far right obsession with trans people rumbles on unabated. Somehow I manage to live my life without ever thinking about trans people unless I'm here.
 
What a disgrace. Have we come to the point in our culture where we are now unable to just tell certain people NO, you will NOT be included, you are NOT special.
 
How does allowing unqualified trans people to participate in a world class competition they have no business being included in help the image of trans people or trans rights?

It doesn't. And that's not what was happening. That senior citizen wasn't participating in the competition.
