How can a state law to ban something be defeated if the people actually consider the new law onerous? That is easy. Let the Indians violate the law, except they are not violating it. I just heard on a radio show that the Native American tribes in North Dakota are setting up abortion clinic, and since tribal areas are autonomous, there is nothing that the government can do about it.

I have tried to find a link about what I just heard on the radio, but cant find one yet. If anyone else finds something on this issue, put it here.

Meanwhile, I did find this discussion on the issue
.

By indians, do you mean feather or dot? Feather is more likely. So what, are you gonna join the tribe now? There are many things the Injuns can do that the US normally wouldn't allow. But alot of people usually forget about our redskinned friends, though they probably still hate the white man, of which I don't blame them.

Native Americans...... gotta love 'em.

Maybe they might get real capitolistic and combine the clinic in the same tee-pee with the casino. Take that Paleface!!

:rofl

I love Fridays.

Friday's are awesome. But not all indians (feather) live in tee-pees. Some lived in wigwams, like my tribe the Iroquois.

Oh how wonderful!

Abortion is here to stay, since the legal right to it is one of the great social advances of the last century. South Dakotans will find solutions, just like the Portugese women who make it to the abortion boats in International waters, or the many thousands of Irish women who make the trip over to the UK where you can get surgery free of maniacal catholic interference.

Women will decide their fate, not the church, not the state. Cathos and other loonies had better just get over it.

Where does it say that abortion is a legal right? It's not in the constitution.

In civilized nations it's considered a legal right.
It's legal if it isn't prohibited by law, regardless of constitiutions, which some nations (the UK for example) don't have.

So if the US banned abortion all together, then we'd be uncivilized?

Hmmmmm....... Loonies describe the left perfectly. And when are the liberals ever tolerant, like they claim to be? All I hear is dissent and slander, especially towards white, straight, male, christian conservatives.

Actually, abortion is not a legal right that is defined in the Constitution. In this case, the 10th Amendment applies, but itself is trumped by treaty. This is a highly unusual situation.

You mean civilized nations like Europe, where abortion is more heavily restricted than in the US? You're right, we should model ourself more after Europe.

Ps missed you.

I have friends in real life.
I'm not sad enough to need them in cyberspace.

Cathos and other loonies, myself included, will probably forever wonder and question the social and legal acceptance of mothers killing their unborn. So you might as well just get over that. :rofl And for what it's worth I don't think pausing to consider whether we should be allowed to kill a human being in its earliest stage of development is all that looney? Is it?

But the Indian thing is kind of funny. Imagine the money to be made with abortion and casinos combined. You can visit the clinic get your abortion and then walk next door and gamble, and now that you're not pregnant you can smoke and drink too which is great 'cause indian casinos will probably eventually be the only place you can smoke. Those Indians really know and understand what it means to be an American so I gotta respect that.

Europe's a vast continent of many nations.
You refer to places like Ireland, Poland, Portugal - ah yes, catholic countries! No wonder they have some backward policies.
In the more civilized nations, we don't have a problem with women having the right to choose.

Unlike the white, straight, male, christian conservatives that disagree with or slander liberals?

You're not a mother if you've never had a child. Get over it:roll:

So it's civilized to kill innocent, defenseless humans? Your view of the word "civilized" is warped indeed.

No, but that doesn't describe abortion.

Negative. It is uncivilized to assume something is illegal because it is not written that it is legal. Just as it is uncivilized to assume something is legal just because it is not written it is illegal.

The definition of uncivilized in this conversation is heavily learning towards the definition of democratic.

Alot of mothers have abortions 'cause they don't want more kids than the ones they've already got. Your just being silly and I am over it.

I would love to see the statistics on that.

edit- i found it.

For women for whom data on previous live births was adequately reported, 39% of women who obtained legal induced abortions were known to have had no previous live births, and 86% had had two or fewer previous live births (Table 12). The abortion ratio was highest for women who had three previous live births (285 per 1,000 live births) and lowest for women who had one previous live birth (194 per 1,000 live births).

I'm actually referring to Europe as a whole - There are only 6 countries in the world that permit abortion on demand up to viability: The US, North Korea, China, Canada, Zambia, and Vietnam.
