In an email to supporters, the 37-year-old Afghanistan war veteran says ‘this is a season for boldness’

Pete Buttigieg, the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Ind., announced he is launching a presidential exploratory committee for the Democratic nomination, telling supporters in an email, “this is a season for boldness.”

Mr. Buttigieg, a Rhodes Scholar and Naval Reserve officer who served in Afghanistan, won his first term as mayor in 2011. He announced he was gay in a newspaper column in June 2015, and won re-election in November 2015 with more than 80 percent of the vote.
==================================================
Interesting CV: Harvard, Rhodes scholar, veteran, openly gay. It will be interesting to see how he shakes out of the mix of the 20+ people eyeing the Democrat primary in 2020.

And that is his real name? How is that pronounced?

Why should one care if he is gay? What are the policies he advocates? Has he any private sector experience... seems all his life experience was either in the educational realm or is somehow government related. The only thing on his resume that I can readily respect is that he was in Afghanistan vet, IOW his service. Being a mayor of a mid sized city is not a particulary noteworthy accomplishment.

Being gay is even less of an accomplishment, way less. It should not even be noted except as an asterisk someplace in the seldom read history books related to South Bend. Perhaps not even then.
