Incitement of Insurrection - Context Matters

It would be worth it if it removed Trump from the political stage.
If Democrats are unable to beat a twice impeached, four times indicted traitor who displays open contempt for the Constitution then America's already past the point of no return.

And impeachment as a political weapon has sadly already become entrenched. Anytime a President's party is in minority in the House, it's likely to happen in the future. I hope I'm wrong.
Maybe, but the fact is it would be wrong for a political party to just keep waiting 'til they have a sufficient majority to impeach their political rivals long after they've left office. Trump's second impeachment was conducted as soon as feasible after his offense (and IIRC deliberately delayed by Republicans so they could concoct a feeble 'out of office' narrative around it), and it failed. It'd be one thing if he regained office again, but trying to do so when he's so long out of office is just a bad precedent.

You recall quite correctly. Republicans also sabotaged a bipartisan commission by insisting that witness investigate themselves (Jordan, Banks), ensuring that the only commission would be a democrat-led one and pro-Trumpers could cry that it was a partisan witch hunt. Mitch McConnell even admitted that Trump was "practically and morally responsible for the events of the day", before doing everything he could to polish that turd and run interference for the man responsible. Party-over-country sellout, just like 95% of the other Congressional Republicans who feared for their lives on 1/6 but then refused to hold the man responsible accountable even politically, much less criminally.
