Obama had back channel communication with Kim during essentially his entire 1st term. Maybe longer. But Kim never actually wanted to talk details or negotiate. He wanted trips and visits and concessions without giving anything up. Trump gave him exactly what he wanted.

Ben Rhodes book "The world as it is" details much of it. Very well written and a lot of detail. Gives you a lot of insight to the decision making process in the Obama administration, inner arguments amongst the people etc.

I think the sought after peace between North and South Korea is real. Coming off a successful and crisis-free 2016 Winter Olympics in which both countries showed the world they could work together, I think both countries finally decided they could take prudent steps to reunify. However, while allowing families to cross the DMZ for visits long overdue and tearing down old military outpost along the DMZ makes for good headlines of fostering goodwill in-country, that does nothing to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that NKor is denuclearizing. Destroying one old, run down nuclear test facility isn't proof. It's just propaganda for the world stage.

So, the question now is what will Pres. Trump do now provided these missile sites are real and they're outfitted with ICBM that are nuke-launch capable? Will he retaliate "with fire and fury the likes no one has ever seen before"? Or will his red line be a redherring much like Obama's was over Syria's use of chemical weapons?

I can hardly wait for Mr. Trump's greatest apologist to post how we should all wait to see the real evidence because that's what he's going to do until after he has personally inspected the so-called "missile sites" and personally determined that they actually contain actual missiles that actually contain actual nuclear weapons that are actually targeted at actual American targets and that the people in charge of firing those missiles have already been given the orders to fire them at a specific time on a specific date - at which point he will consider whether he has received enough evidence to begin to consider whether there is some possibility that Mr. Trump might have been slightly less than 100% correct when he announced that he had freed the world from the possibility of a nuclear war.

We saw ALOT of trust, but very little verification all coming amidst calls for turning NKor into the largest sheet of glass and rubble that would make Japan jealous.

Funny. I've heard about any NK ICBM missiles flying over Guam for a long time now. That's a plus.

What did it cost us? It didn't cost us the billions Obama shipped over to Iran, nor lifting all the sanctions.

So no cost and no missiles flying around threatening the peace of the region, and the possibility of further diplomacy.
