With all the hype about ***** Riot some time ago, I wonder why this haven't caused any more waves here on DP?!?

Imprisoned ***** Riot band members released - CNN.com
"CNN -- Two members of Russian punk band ***** Riot, who were serving two-year jail terms for their part in a performance critical of Russian President Vladimir Putin, have been released from prison.
Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova were released about two months before their prison sentences were due to end. The release was approved last week when Russian lawmakers backed a sweeping amnesty law announced by Putin."

Video: Freed ***** Riot member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova calls for boycott of Winter Olympics - Telegraph
"Maria Alyokhina, the ***** Riot member who was freed from prison on Monday morning, described her release as a 'PR stunt' and said she would have stayed in jail."

In some related news, this dude is free as well.

Vladimir Putin pardons oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky in Amnesty - Telegraph
"Putin has said he will pardon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the former oligarch who has languished in jail on tax evasion and embezzlement charges since challenging Mr Putin’s authority a decade ago, in a bomb-shell decision that appears linked to the up-coming Sochi Winter Olympic games.
Mr Khodorkovsky, who is widely viewed as Mr Putin’s arch enemy, joins a number of high-profile prisoners including ***** Riot’s Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina who will be released in an amnesty ahead of the February Games."

Cheers,
Fallen.

Great news. But its obvious that Putin is just trying to save face in light of the Sochi Olympics coming up. All about a PR move for Putin.

That should be fairly obvious. There's no "islam" or "left / right wing" angle either and there are plenty of news sources which demands that opinions be informed and logical.

In short, there's no nationalist titillation on offer here.
