Russian media and separatist intel, reports that Ukraine is preparing to attack separatists in the Mariupol region, has been amassing forces and heavy artillery close to the de-marcation line in breach of Minsk 2.

https://www.vesti.ru/doc.html?id=3096205&cid=4441

In addition to the schism, there's a civil split in Ukraine between the two parts of the country after Petro Poroshenko introduced martial law in the ten regions which are the least loyal to him. Besides, everyone strongly suspects that Poroshenko is plotting a new war with Donbass. Actually, the intelligence of the local militia thinks the same. Heavy equipment and even attack aircraft have been transferred from Ukraine to the line of demarcation. That's why the armed forces of Donbass are on full alert, and in the south of the republic, detachments were formed to repel a possible attack.

Alexandr Sladkov with the details on how the Donbass is getting ready for possible provocations from the Kiev security officials.

If true a stupid move by the Ukraine.

It would give Russia the excuse and as such to intervene more directly. During which i could see Russia doing one of two things

1. Push on until it controls land all the way to Crimea. A more politically risky move but one with long term strategic benefits but probably cause even more isolation intenationally

2. Push on to Mariupol.

Ukraine might be hoping an attack would cause the EU or US to get involved, which I doubt considering what happened in Georgia. Which makes any assault by the Ukraine on Donbass an idiotic move, which will lead to the loss of more territory

How can it be a "provocation" if Ukraine attacks non-Ukrainian military separatists inside of Ukraine?

Russia invaded Ukraine, arms rebels inside Ukraine, attacks Ukrainian forces in the Crimea and all over the Donbass and other regions, and somehow it's a provocation by Ukraine to defend their own territory?

Wow. Now that's some thick propaganda that's impossible for anyone with any common sense to swallow.

When your politics are sinking, there's nothing like a war to get the morons saying "He's my President now." Just like when Trump got snookered by his Intelligence Agencies to drop missiles on Syria when the al Qeda did a false flag gas attack.

Russian disinformation. They have been tossing this out on social media for the past two months at least.

The much bandied-about attack by Ukraine on Russia will supposedly be a chemical attack according to "Russian sources". Still waiting.

Russia has said they don't have any troops in Donbass, so I can't see exactly who the Ukrainians would be attacking, unless it's those Russian troops that aren't really there. Odd that Putin is handing out medals for service in Ukraine when there aren't any troops there, huh?

Or, the Donbass didn't recognize the results of the USA/CIA/NED inspired Coup d'etat and that is why they are separatists, just like Crimea.

Do not some Americans think the Union moving forces to Fort Sumter as a provocation which caused the Confeds to attack and as such start the actual fighting part of the civil war?

They're wrong as well. And, that's from a southerner. The provocation was when the separatist South Carolina forces fired upon the US troops at Ft. Sumter, not that the US troops were in a US fort located within the US. Sound familiar?

Either way it would give Russia the cause belli it would need to intervene directly (Responsibility to protect the innocent civilians in the Donbass region)

They don't need an excuse, because they're there already, and have been. Not to say that they wouldn't say that they needed to escalate the conflict to "protect Russian speaking people" in the Donbass, which is the same excuse they used in Georgia, the Crimea, and the Donbass to date - as well as the excuse that Germany used in the Sudetenland in 1939, and we know how that worked out in the end.

Although Russia (Putin) may be able to convince Trump not to intervene, the fact of the matter is that it is in fact Congress, not Trump, that has the power to force the US to intervene. So, this could be a very bad misstep by Putin if he thinks his influence over Trump (if there actually is any) would protect him - it won't.

Note

Georgia was not to protect Russian speakers, but South Ossetia, which has been run as an independent state for 15+ years

As for Ukraine, Donbass and potential a potential Russian counter offensive. I doubt the US would get directly involved. That area is strategically important to Russia, and it would be very unlikely to back down from its course of action. Meaning it would not retreat in the face of US military action (doing so would end Putin's term in office). Resulting in a real war, probably leading to the use of nuclear weapons as a result. The Ukraine is not that important to the US. The only US interest in the Ukraine has been to weaken Russia by pulling the Ukraine from it politically and economically

Which means more sanctions which Putin/Russia can live with

Every 6 months or so, Moscow moves the borders and takes another 2 kilometers of Georgian territory.

I've posted of this here in the Europe forum more than once.

Remove Russia from Swift and Swift collapses.

Russia has resources in which the world can not do without (without causing significant shortages). The EU is in the process of creating an alternative to SWIFT because of US sanctions on Iran preventing its use of Swift, and Iran is minor compared to the importance of Russia. So ban Russia from Swift and alternatives would be created quite quickly

Are you the same RV who has started threads about Russia amassing troops on Ukraine's border in preparation for an invasion? :)

This is not, and never has been, about an attack on Russia. That would be so moronic that even Poro wouldn't contemplate it.

This is about Kiev's neo nazi infiltrated army attacking the Ukrainian separatists in the Mariupol region. It's very specific intel. It's expected to start on about Dec 25.

Lol. First the Kremlin said on Dec. 14. That came and went. What sort of lousy intel does the Kremlin have?

Now you say Dec. 25. Martial Law ends on the 23rd. Seems like pretty crappy intel once again.

What's disturbing is that some folks here in this thread actually give Kremlin disinformation some credence.

But then again, they are Kremlin-friendly to begin with.

Malarkey. Russia probably collapses.

Not malarkey

Without Russian oil and gas the prices for both will go sky high, so countries will buy Russian oil and gas outside Swift. Same with Titanium, alternatives to Swift will be made quickly in order to for payments to be made. It already is being done by the EU for trade with Iran
