immigration reform (1 Viewer)

people always complain about illegal immigrants. Perhaps we need to reform the immigration laws, and maybe it will help mitigate the flood of immigrants over the borders.

Would you want to wait 20 years to get here?

Whether or not one wants to wait 20 years to get here is beside the point. People from everywhere want to get into this country and they all have to wait. We can't just let everyone in that wants in. We're a sovereign nation and we get to decide who and how many get to come in.

26,000 Mexicans a year seems about right. There are a lot of other sovereign nations in South American than just Mexico.

It's a myth that the Mexicans take the jobs that Americans don't want. It's just that Americans won't take jobs that pay slave wages. Scumbag employers who originally started hiring illegal Mexicans and paying them slave wages had an unfair advantage over employers who hired legal citizens and probably paid them minimum wage. Pretty soon those employers who weren't hiring illegal Mexicans had to start hiring illegal Mexicans to be competitive. Since the government refused to enforce immigration laws, things snowballed from there. Previous administrations didn't do much to enforce immigration laws, but Bush, with his corporate sponsors calling for cheap labor, which he delivered, and Bush's pandering to the Latino community for votes, took lack of enforcement of immigration laws to a new high. Now we have an illegal Mexican invasion crisis. Bush really helped create this problem and now he wants to grant amnesty to the illegal Mexicans to help make his problem go away. And all the time still pandering to the Latino community for their votes.

that 20 years thing is crap. There is an Indian Immigration Lawer that rents office space from us, and she needs more and more every month to fit in new employees to meet the demand for immigration from India. She is always busy, comes in early, leaves late. These people wait a few weeks, maybe months, not years.

I think reform should include screening for deseases, criminal and other back ground checks.

I think those who are caught here illegal should be permanatly banned from any future entrance and citizenship into this country.I also think countries we have severe illegal alien problems should ban any citizenships and visa from that country.

As long as the business world likes cheap labor, then any type of reform will be almost fruitless.

But the simple fact is these immigrants fill in gaps in our booming economy. If it weren't for immigrants then we would currently be on a population decline. With these immigrants they help add in to the tax base and pay for programs like Social Security. Along with this, the 1996 welfare reforms prevent nearly any illegal immigrant from receiving much in the ways of government services. The simple fact is our economy would be put in a very bad situation if we limit immigration. America isn't about saying someone is not good enough to get in. It should never be. The overwhelming majority of immigrants work extremely hard and help our economy and diversify our culture. People said that the Irish would be nothing but lazy drunks, people said the Chinese shouldn't be allowed to immigrate in, but both of these groups have been extremely prosperous. The simple fact is that restrictive immigration policy goes against American ideals and would hurt the American economy. Consider this, on average immigrant workers put in 80,000 some dollars into taxes and 192,000 dollars if they're college educated (cato.org). Why would we want to take this money away from programs like social security which need the younger worker base, which immigration provides? We only serve to benefit by laxing current immigration restrictions to allow the movement of human capital.

I agree 200% of what you say SFLRN. What I was trying to get at was that corporations will do anything to save a buck. Until they make this a workers market again and not an investors market like it is now, this economy will be in a struggle. the gap between the rich and poor will increase dramatically and the middle class: made up of the lower, center, and upper, will virtually vanish and we will end up resembling Mexico to some extent.:moody

Are you tallking about illegals or immigrints? It seems you are trying to blur the lines between immigrints and illegals.I am sure many immigrints get pissed when ever someone compares them to criminals who spit our immigration laws.

We have 24,400 non-US citizens currently serving in the Armed forces. What would you like to do with them?

I'm talking about illegal immigrants when I talk about filling gaps. Think of it from the illegal perspective, sure maybe I don't want to break the law but do I want to be able to work hard and move up or struggle in a stagnant economy in Mexico. Do I go for a better life for myself and or my family or do I simply obey the laws because they're laws. If you want less illegal immigration then you will have to either cure the ills of the economies of the immigrants or rather lower restrictions to make it much easier for people to join this great nation.

The First Statement I will make is that they are not American---Until it is safe to do so. We cant just let them pour across, they should have a background check, and different kinds of security procautions. What if a Terrorist were to come across the border, just because we decided we were going to let people from another country flood our society? It's unacceptable to allow these people across like this. It's not tolerated in other country's why should we tolerate it here? Just because the Disfunctional United Nations says we should? I think not.

I think military service is another way of earning citizenship, beside the non-US citizens are also getting screened for deseases as well.

You are wholly right. It isnt allowed in other countries and as a result they have population decline and their economy suffers from restrictive immigration controls. I don't see these as people flooding our society, so much as people who would enrich and help our society with their hard work ethics. Illegal or not, a great deal of immigrants work their butts off. Remember that the 19 hijackers came here through student visas and not through the border. Terrorists can get around restrictions, and should we shut the door to freedom because people threaten it? I understand we need security but why not let us have some idea on immigration by making it easier for people to get in through legal means instead of illegal and then work on finding the terrorists among the immigrants?

If you are an American you should look at it from a American perspective that it would be nice if people did not invade our country,**** all over immigration laws and drove down wages and did not disrespect our sovereignty.

bahahahha. I'll start off by saying the wage arguement is statistically incorrect. Statistics actually show there is about a 10 billion gain to native citizens. So to look at it from your "American Perspective" I only serve to benefit from immigrants. http://www.cato.org/pubs/handbook/hb109/hb_109-65.pdf Lets not play the absolute sovereignty card. Need we forget that this country was found with disregard for the sovereignty of the Native Americans who were forced out (now obviously that doesn't make the founders evil, they had a significantly different view of non-whites and it was a different society and in some senses they thought they were justified.). Its not an American perspective to call people who want to become part of this great country and enjoy social mobility invaders. Yes I prefer people use the legal means of immigration. But at the same time we have an obligation to the freedom of others to join in this country. How do we "Spread democracy" if we won't even let others enjoy the democracy we currently enjoy in the United States?

Publications from proillegals mean nothing to me.

If others want to enjoy our democracy they can do it the legal way ,not **** on our laws like some scumbag. The "our ancestors invaded American a long time ago and kicked out the indians to reservation" horse **** excuse you come up sounds like better reason to clamp down on our border, jail and imprison those who hire illegals permanatly ban anyone here illegally from any citizenship and or entry into this country.

I agree with you on this point, although I think you need to define "disease" a little better. What are you talking about; a cold? foot fungus? AIDS? a boil on your arse?

I'm sure you may not like the stats provided by CATO. Many of their stats from that brief come from the government, so its not just all bull stats. Please provide actual statistics to prove me wrong rather than simply saying you don't like my position.
