So, yesterday a guy made a tweet aimed at the band Rage Against the Machine. It has since been deleted due to the volume of ridicule received.

“I used to be a fan until your political opinions came out,” the fan wrote. “Music is my sanctuary and the last thing I want to hear is political BS when I’m listening to music. As far as I’m concerned, you and Pink are completely done. Keep running your mouth and ruining your fan base.”

It took 25 years but this guy finally decided to identify with The Machine.

I just have to ask: Did he think "**** YOU I WONT DO WHAT YOU TELL ME" was aimed at, like, an overbearing parent?

Ratm are brilliant but mislead revolutionaries. Inspiring music and the attached ideology rather incidental.

I like Morello's response:

“Scott!! What music of mine were you a fan of that DIDN’T contain ‘political BS’? I need to know so I can delete it from the catalog,” Morello wrote.

But for real, the guy never once actually listened to the words or what? It's pretty obvious what RATM is about.

Someone said, "What do you think they are raging against? Washing machines?'

I hate my ****ing washing machine. The damned thing quits in middle of cycles, won't drain all the time. Piece of ****!

Just transplant whatever ideology one prefers into the music and enjoy. They're artists. Poetic license in listening isn't stealing.

The washing machines at college almost half of the time left my clothes a dripping mess. I rage against those machines, too. :2mad:

Maybe he just started actually listening to the lyrics.

Or maybe he finally understands them.

Kind of reminds me of when Reagan thought “Born in the USA” was a patriotic song.

My drier has some wires hanging loose...haven't decided if this is an issue I need to be concerned with or not just yet.

Heh..

He used to be a fan til their political views came out? So he was a fan for...like...what...2 minutes?

I mean...come on...

thats not exactly 'disguised'.

I seen a couple of singers and a couple of bands take a real big hit when they delve into politics. There's no question that they have a right to spout their political beliefs up the ying yang. But for every action there's a reaction. I haven't the faintest idea who the The Machine was or is.

The band is "Rage Against the Machine." They didn't just recently "delve into politics." If their name wasn't explicit enough of a clue, the lyrics to pretty much every song they've ever written would have been a good indicator. They've been openly and obviously political for nearly thirty years. They lit an American flag on fire... on stage at a concert... in 1999.

I don't see how someone could "like their music" without figuring this out. Their first big hit was "Killing in the Name" and it was very explicitly about white supremacists in our police forces... and it released in 1992!

Like I said, I never heard of them. But thanks for the info.

Twitter had a whole fun thread with responses like 'Rage Alongside The Machine'

"OK I WILL DO WHAT YOU TELL ME!"

I sure hope my favorite band NWA doesn't open their mouths on a subject like police brutality. I want to just be able to listen to their music without having their opinion on cops shoved down my throat.

Not to worry, your smoke alarm will let you know when it actually becomes an issue...

Their music is good and it is original.
Prefer TOOL myself.

No, no, you've BOTH gotten them all wrong! RATM are a hardcore Christian, Jehova's Witness band! Its obvious that when he sings, "hell no, i won't do what you tell me", that he's speaking directly to Satan, and saying that he won't follow the devil's evil demands that they have unmarried sexual relations, or smoke the devil's weed(marijuana), and wont stay up past 10:00 pm on saturday night, so theyll be well rested for a full Sunday of church related activities! Lol

I just heard something about Ice Cube a few days ago related to this issue, but i dont recall what it was. Only that it was disappointing.

Many people are just clueless in general. You remember them when you were in school, the teacher could go over a thing 50 times and the dumbski still couldn't figure it out.

Lots of people are clueless about music and art too. I once heard somebody ask what the name of the band Paul McCartney was in before he was in Wings.

Did you ever listen to Ice T's group Bodycount?

Nice wholesome music

This site is where the "rage" meets. Every day, there is something new for the entitlement minded little jerk progressives, socialists, communists, liberals and independents to rage about. It stems from having too much and feeling guilty they have more than another but are unwilling to give it away.
