Hi, I've been analyzing my own political beliefs recently and I have a rather unique mix of beliefs. Its rather difficult to explain all of my beliefs to somebody so if anyone knows of a political philosophy that is close to mine, I'd like to know what it is so I can see if it would be an accurate phrase to use to describe myself.

Economic Beliefs

I believe that small businesses should be basically deregulated depending on the industry as they are usually very personal with all members including those at the very top being members of the communities they operate in. So regulation would have more of a direct impact on the individuals within the company, and a greater hindrance to growth with no real benefit. Large corporations however, I see more as organizations with those in control very disconnected from their consumers and even low-level employees. As such the need for regulation is higher because they are capable of attaining greater power and stifling competition. I see this regulation of large companies not as regulation of the individuals within because the company operates more as a hive mind with one prime directive- profit, often times at the expense of the consumer, employee, and the country at large.

I believe that there should be greater taxation on the upper class and on large corporations. As the economy is mostly dependent on large corporations and the upper class, and that they benefit the most from economic highs and suffer the least from economic lows, I see it fit that they contribute more to protect those below them since they take most of the impact of the upper class's and corporations' mistakes. I believe that tax money should primarily be spent in infrastructure and social programs (which I will describe later)

Government

I believe in a strong, centralized government. I believe in the Idea of rule of law combined with democracy by popular vote (no delegates, supreme court prevents "mob rule"). The governments primary role should be to enforce laws and regulation, and protect the rights of its citizens. The government should have no power over culture (meaning uninhibited freedom of speech/expression/belief). All individuals regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation should be treated equally by the law, no special benefits for certain demographics, only based on NEED. I believe that anyone should be able to run for a government position, campaigns should be publicly financed, short and to the point.

Social Programs

I believe that healthcare, welfare, and education should be guaranteed as rights and funded by taxpayer money. I believe healthcare and pharmaceuticals should NOT be privatized, the priority should be healing and finding cures, not profiting off of their sickness.

Go with "Pinko Commie Liberal Progressive Socialist". I won't hold it against you.;)

And welcome!!

I abhor the prohibition of private enterprise so I would not consider myself communist or pure socialist.

Just vote Trump and everything will be alright..

oh, did you ever just stir the pot.

i agree with you on most points. i probably wouldn't raise taxes on corporations, though. in fact, quite the opposite. however, i'd do more to ensure that they stay smaller and more competitive. allowing them to congeal into rickety skyscrapers that can regularly bring down an entire economy once risky gambling reaches its inevitable conclusion is poor policy. also, we should be a lot more aggressive about anti-trust actions.

i'm a left-leaning independent, so we're probably close on the political scale. in the current political climate, choked by our gerrymandered duopoly, that means that we pretty much have to take whatever candidate the Democratic party pukes up, and the current one's a real gusher. anyway, welcome to the site and all. good night, and good luck.

all you have to do is add that you hate guns, and you would been seen as a god to the leftists

call it whatever you like, just dont let it be MY government

I don't plan on it. Ignoring the fact that he opposes many of the ideas I stand for, he lost all of my respect when he refused to speak against the KKK. He panders to his supporters as much as any politician, hes no different. Also, I'm not a big fan of the idea of a Billionaire becoming president. He might not be a puppet for large corporations like Clinton, but that's because he is a large corporation himself, he's just skipped the middle man.

ummm, I suggest you spend about a decade in the workforce trying to keep your bill's paid. after that half those "beliefs" will go out the window.

You belong to the "gimme gimme gimme" party. Welcome!

I'm glad that my thread has garnered some attention, but I am more interested to know if anyone is familiar with an existing political philosophy that I might adhere to.

I agree with you on almost all points, you belong on the centre-left with John Stuart Mill's liberalism or social democracy.

well, my advise to folks who are looking into their own political philosophies is usually... check into whether or not your beliefs are consistent with reality before you settle on them, learn all you can, and then you can start to see where you fit in.

for example, you state that you believe tax money should be spend on infrastructure and social programs... ok, great,.
it sounds good, but there's a problem with that belief...... the problem being that tax monies, at the federal level, aren't spent on anything.... literally.
it's valid opinion to believe the federal govt should spend on infrastructure and social programs, but now you'll have to look into the rationale for your tax policies ( as taxing for revenue to spend is an invalid rationale)

political philosophy isn't easy.... and it takes years and years of reflecting and testing the premises behind your beliefs to settle on sometime that's even close to accurate..... and the minute you do, you'll find that the world has changed, and so have you.

for the time being I think the general heading of "liberal" will suit you fine..... it's a very very broad philosophy and encompasses about 90% of America. ( progressives, conservatives, libertarians... we all are, in a general sense, liberals)

be content with debating issues and learning

Why worry yourself trying to adhere to some "off the shelf" ideology? I don't know anybody that is a perfect fit for all aspects of a given political belief.
