No. Just hope you've been trained really, really, well.

Something about that cracks me up.

More like something of an accident waiting to happen.

If going to work scares you so much you need a weapon, and you work with children, find another job.

You are not necessary, you do not need to be there, they have no choice. Some asshole figures out they just have to wait til your not paying attention and boom they have your gun and mowed down half the school.

Just the level of ignorance it takes to think anyone would applaud your idiotic decision.

I would pull my kid out of your school. And I think you should inform every student's parent in your school of your very irresponsible decision to risk their childrens lives, because of cowardice.

How would you handle this scenario? One of your students decides he wants to shoot up the school, his family doesn't own guns, but luckily he remembers you carry one to school everyday. He devises a simple plan to separate you from your gun. Now your hick logic doesn't account for that possibility because you have so much faith in your abilities, but this kid basically says look over there and takes your gun when you don't suspect it. Shoots you in the face, and then the rest of the students in the class.

Putting the instrument by which they would do the deed, in the classroom with them is the height, height, of stupidity.

"well thoughtex. your just an anti gun libtard der der derr" No I'm ****ing not, I'm just not as dumb as a bag of ****ing hammers. And as a parent who has actually lost a child, I will tell you this, if a kid ever gets your gun and shoots another kid. Or you are forced to defend yourself against a child and shoot them. Be looking for that parent to find you when you least expect it, and have your gun ready.

Are you breaking the law in doing so?

If the voices ever tell you to fill your pockets with spares, promise you'll call in sick that day.

Why do you see that as an 'accident waiting to happen'? Ive carried concealed for 36 years and never once has it become a source of negative concern.

I dont think you are dumb as a box of hammers but I think your response is. We know that school shootings are an extremely rare but possible occurence. We know beyond question that armed guards at every school in the country (350,000+ public schools and education institutions) is not feasible. We also know that where police have been on site (specifically Columbine and Stoneman Douglas) they were ineffective. We know police response times to school shootings has a history of dismal to obscene, with the Sandy Hook response taking over 20 minutes (and they did not breach for 10 minutes AFTER the final shot) and the response at Columbine taking over several HOURS, even though an armed officer was assigned to the school and on site at the time the incident began.

Now lets talk about what it means to carry concealed. First...you will never know if I am carrying concealed if there isnt an emergency. So thinking kids are going to wait til my back is turned to snatch a gun they DO NOT know about nor have any idea where on my person it is secured is rather...well...YOU mentioned the 'dumb as a ****ing bag of hammers' thing, so lets stick with that.

Now to your scenario...since that kid doesnt KNOW that I carry every day, your scenario is rather stupid. But I'll help you out. A kid decides he or she wants to shoot up a school but doesnt have a gun. He cant steal mine because 1-he doesnt know I am carrying and 2-couldnt take it from deep concealment and 3-oh yeah...we already determined that your scenario is as "dumb as a ****ing bag of hammers". BUT...what that kid MAY do is break into someone elses house, or steal it from a relatives house (both of those scenarios have played out historically) OR even though that kid may not be able to access a gun legally, may convince friends to buy them for him (ala Columbine). Whatever the means...the kid is now there at the school...and commences to firing. YOUR kid is now in a school with no protection, no armed response, and is taking his or her turn waiting to die because the cops are deciding on who has jurisdiction or waiting in the parking lot to determine how best to look busy while shots are being fired inside the school where your child is a target all because your notions regarding individuals and concealed carry are as dumb as a ****ing bag of hammers.

But hey...maybe having your kid cowering in the corner covering his or her face with a book is what you find preferable as a deterrent. And if your kid DOES become a victim, at least you will know he or she wasnt saved by a responsible armed law abiding citizen exercising his or her Constitutional rights responsibly. Maybe you could put that on the kids tombstone.

I presume you carry concealed. If you keep it concealed, then no one knows you have it except those you tell, and those who can spot it. I presume you carry properly stowed on your body with a fastener to prevent it from falling out, I'm OK with it. Since I don't expect to "quick draw" without warning like a cop might, then there is also no need for one in the chamber.

I am against "open carry" because it makes some people nervous, and I respect that.

So that's my .45 cents.

Library Media Specialists are not Teachers... they are support staff...

Hopefully you've had extensive training, especially for situations where there are lots of innocent bystanders. Otherwise, you're just adding to the risk of casualties should an active shooter situation happen. I have no problem with people that are trained carrying firearms, but simply getting your Conceal and Carry permit doesn't make you trained for active shooter situations.

translation: I'm 100 percent confident in my abilities to control my weapon at all times. I do not take into account my tendency to talk constantly about my love of fire arms. Nor do I take into account that no matter how well I conceal my weapon, if I have it on my person and within reach in case of an emergency, it will be visible at some point.

I take into account at all times how awesome I am, and how other people just can't deal with how awesome I am. It's just not possible for a weapon to be taken from me...

Not from deep concealment...

They won't know it's there, I'll be in the same room with them for an entire year. And they'll never know... Even though I have to disclose it to school admins and other teachers, who will gossip and have opinions. The students won't overhear them. Just not possible.

Even if they did know, they couldn't possibly get the gun from me. Not me...

They'd have to wait til I was at my desk or something, and bash me in the head with a fire extinguisher readily available outside every class room. Reach down the front of my pants, and get it from the special deep concealment holster I have. That is totally not noticeable as a giant diaper looking bulge...

couldn't happen, it's not like these kids today spend all their time playing war simulations...

And I'm a crack shot so you don't have to worry about me missing the problem kid and hitting another in a crowded room full of children all screaming and running about. Nor do you have to worry about my bullets going through paper thin walls into other classrooms. Nope. I'm just to awesome. And me having a license to kill my students, is the only thing that will protect them.

I am in England.

It is utterly mad that you feel the need to do so.

It is mad that anybody would want this situation at all.

Do you think that school shootings are a problem in the US?

Do you think that school shootings are a problem in the US?

Yes.

Your society has a very dark side of lack of social support and inclusion of anybody who does not conform. This leads to many problems of alienation and frustration. That coupled with an insane level of availibility of fire arms and madly poor level of respect for safety around fire arms leads to your massive problems with school shootings.

Do you think that school shootings are a problem in the US?

I think improper storage of fire arms is a problem in the USA. The school shootings are just a side effect of that.

Dumbass old men, leaving their guns lying about, because nothing like that could possible happen to me, I'm responsible... Is a problem in the USA.

Easy access to guns by emotionally volatile hormone junkies is a problem in the USA.

IE. Putting the instrument of the crime, at the scene, past any potential security checks, readily available to a potential shooter, with an underpaid overly distracted human being as it's only guardian, is the dumbest possible idea.

You know what would be a good idea?

Prison Sentences for people who don't secure their fire arms and a kid gets it. When Grandpa is doing 10 years for leaving his pistol in a drawer by his bed, and timmy finds it and shoots himself. Then watch as accidental gun deaths in children and school shootings disappear...

Consequences for incompetence in gun owners is the answer.

No. Just hope you've been trained really, really, well.

I've been trained to state standards by an accredited securities firm. I've also passed the written and firearms handling requirements of my state license.

Dood...your bias beats your own ass every time you start typing.

Like you said...I'm not saying YOU are dumb as a ****ing bag of hammers...but your words sure are.

Given that firearm ownership is a protected individual right in the US, the number of guns isn't going down anytime soon. When a shooter shows up at a school, any laws put in place to prevent such are not going to help. Armed resistance can. Immediate armed resistance is better than delayed armed resistance.

And the school shooting problem is overstated. More children die going to and from school than are murdered at school by someone with a gun.
