Well, I say that there obviously is such a thing as an illegal immigrant. What do you think..?

I do not care about illegal immigration and I don't think I ever will. It's way way way down there in terms of priorities for me.

An immigrant (alien) that complied with all the immigration laws of the country to which they immigrated is a legal immigrant.

An immigrant (alien) that did not comply with the immigration laws of the country to which they immigrated is considered either an illegal immigrant, or even though the PC crowd says it isn't politically correct, they are officially called an illegal alien as described by the law and federal regulations (notice that the PC crowd got the Administration to add the term "undocumented" even though that terminology is not found in the law or the regulation):

The technical term for said border jumpers is unlawful alien or simply alien. Immigration implies permission. People don't like the term. Tough.

The label is appropriated.If someone is here illegally in this country then they are an illegal, illegal alien or illegal immigrant. No ifs ands or buts about it.Just as some who robs a bank is labeled a bank robber. Or someone who has sex for money is a prostitute or if they have sex for money in front of a camera then that person is a porn star.

But we don't refer to robbers and prostitutes as being illegal. We say what they DID was illegal. How can a human being be illegal? Their actions are. A person can immigrate illegally or legally but refering to theperson as being illegal or legal doesn't make sense, semantically.

One can be a Legal Immigrant. Or an Illegal Immigrant.
