If you were a dictator, what would be the penalty for the opposition?

If you were a dictator, how would you penalize your critics.

If you were a dictator, and someone maliciously criticized you -- in the same way opposition criticizes US president. What would their penalty be?

I'd have them shot at once. From the toes upwards.

Thirty lashes with a wet noodle.

For more serious offenses? Poked in the tummy with a dry noodle 30 times. oke

For hard cases?? The Spanish Inquisition!

10 years would probably be a good penalty. Don't think there should be a minimum. Fines and corporal punishment should also be options.

Of course this only goes for public criticism. Private criticism shouldn't be illegal.

I would not be cruel to anyone, but I would jail malicious critics for some time.

I would deal with critics by issuing my first proclamation: the re-ordaining of the constitution with all of its current amendments, especially the bill of rights.

Pardon, no penalty. Unless they are criminally trying to overthrow me, nothing should happen. I can take criticism haha. I would be dictator, so who cares?

Sic the IRS on them, open the floodgates for illegal immigration neutralizing their political power, send arms to enemies of their enemies, even if they're Islamic extremists, or drone them.

A dictator who does not guard his/her power diligently will lose that power quickly.

"unless they are criminally trying to overthrow me"

I don't care what newspapers print or what pundits say on TV.

If it's open, honest and objective debate, nothing.

If it's slander, libel, and defamation of character or other assorted dishonest tricks and lies, kill them.

Exactly. And the regime of censorship in America* (enforced through threat of unemployment) is underhanded and excessive (it punishes even private dissent).

*Keep in mind that here the ruler who cannot be criticized in America is not a person but rather an ideology.

I would give them 1-2 years in jail for "honest" objections and over 10 years for slander.

Definitely -- the Internet still seems to be free but I doubt it will be for long.

I'd also soft outlaw newspapers, news stations, and the like.

That is why I keep a low profile and do not have a good YouTube channel.

I don't have a Youtube. If I did, I certainly wouldn't put myself in any videos. Vlogging is not for those with forbidden opinions.

Why the heck not?

What the heck would be the point of being dictator, otherwise?

Private criticism doesn't disturb the public conscience.

Hey, I'm dictator, ok?

So bollocks to public conscience or any other disturbance. Heck, I'd forbid public conscience since I'd find that alone disturbing.

Disturbing me.
