If you have a pet....

If you have a pet do you refer to yourself as their "mom" or "dad" ?

I do, I don't know why but I always be like "Come to mommy" to my dogs. Is that wierd or do other people do that too?

Uh, no, that's not weird.
Personally, I like to think of my dog as more of a comrade. Ya know, like "man's best friend". A brother from a different species, if you will.

My husband says it, my vet says it, I dont' say it.
It doesn't bother me when people say it but it reminds me of an aunt of mine whom I've always disliked and who is one of those people who goes overboard with it. She actually stopped visiting us when my Mother told her she couldn't bring her dogs because our siameses wanted to kill them. My Mother always said she wished she had told her that years before.

I have a skinny cat at 7 pounds and a fat cat at 14 pounds. There very nice animals but I don't think of them as my children, my wife does though! :2razz:

That's my baby :2razz:

One of my hairy beasts! I don't call my husband dad and I don't tell my dogs I'm their mommy but they sure act like kids I'll tell you that!

I used to think cats were kind of a useless pet. Cute, but not for me. Now I have 2.

First one was for my ex. Second one was a rescue.

I refer to myself as 'pops' when I'm talking to them...
Never in front of company though...

Peace

I've got lots of pets but I don't think of them as anything other than what they really are: animals. They're nice animals, certainly. I love taking care of them and being with them, but in the end, that's all they are and all they will ever be, animals.

You do realize you're an animal too?

A cat lives here.

In saying that, I do hope people realize why I have to reject the basic premise of this thread in regards to the word "have".

I see a pet as just that - a pet. They are not my equal. Humans enjoy personificating them with human qualities, but the fact remains that they are a pet. So I don't call them children, and I have no qualms about my having or owning a cat.

Last night my two dogs did the cutest thing. They were play fighting with each other and growling and stuff when suddenly their arms got caught up together so they looked like they were hugging. Then they started to lick each others faces and it looked like they even tighted their arms so they were hugging even closer. It was the sweetest thing!.. and who cares if they're both girls, I still luv them

Two kitties in my home and I am their 'mommy'. My BF is also the 'daddy' of his dog. Especially when his dog is bad.
