"If You Can Rent Venice For Your Wedding You Can Pay More Tax"

Venice is nasty, not sure why you would hold a wedding there.

Time and time again we see that it's rules for thee but not for me.

The rich can disrupt anything as their emotions desire.

Meanwhile, there is so much need in the world being unmet.

This is just awesome to see this giant banner speaking for the people.

Jeff, you should have taken your trophy wife and gone some place exclusive for your gaudy wedding. You may have a lot of money but you do not own the world. Nobody does. We all share it. And it takes a lot of average people to make you rich. You couldn't do it without the rest of the world. You should give back more.

I believe there should be no billionaires; and that billionaires need to to pay more. However the fury over his wedding is dumb and a waste of time. Wealthy people wealthying. Who cares.

Bezos paid big money to have a Venice wedding. Not all of the public was impressed.

Venice protesters claim victory in Bezos-Sanchez wedding venue change

Really kind of harming themselves as a lot of money would have gone into the City. The anger toward the wealthy really doesn't make a lot of sense. Anyone who wants to be rich in America has the opportunity. Just get out there, formulate a business plan, and put it into action. You have a shot just like everyone else. On the other hand if you don't try you really shouldn't fault those who do.
I know people who a prefectly happy living in a cabin in the woods and hunting an fishing all the time. Only work enough to fund their needs. So wealth is great, but freedom is as well. The left needs to stop attacking people for having money. The tax laws are made by Congress. If you don't like them call your Congress person. In cities like NYC, the taxes are exorbitant and people who cannot afford to live there need to move to a less expensive state. The other alternative is tell the local politicians you are tired of paying for silly services, paying for illegals in the city and tired of paying some of the highest taxes of any city in America. FOR WHAT?

A rational post ruined by "paying for illegals." Shame. Criticizing hatred is rational, but using hatred in the criticism is not.

In this life, you get what you bust ass for. If you want to be rich, do so. Of course, that would mean that you might have to work hard and give up some comforts as you do so. One other thing that people who want to hate on the rich seem to forget. Go ahead and raise their taxes. They can live anywhere in the world and will move to do so if taxes become high enough to anger them.

BTW, Bezos allocated $10 billion to the Bezos Earth Fund, which is a separate entity focused on climate change and environmental protection. Of course Greenpeace complained because he lives too well. I think they may have complained because they didn't get the money. Just think of all the cans of tomato soup they could purchase with $10 billion. That could deface lots of works of art for the sake of climate change.

Venice is nasty, not sure why you would hold a wedding there.

Most people have never been to Venice and will never go. Mostly it's just for the locals and the well-off who can either afford it or dream about it so much they pay ridiculous portions of their hard earned meager wealth to fulfill a dream. And then their money is gone. And that is why we have the saying: "A fool and their money are quickly parted."

It's far better in this day and age to simply enjoy what is within one's budget and use the fantastic science we have to enjoy pictures and movies showing points of interest. The travel so many people dream of? It's really a huge PITA. Travel is crap. You get treated like Convicts, Cattle and Sardines on airplanes. First you have to empty your pockets, assume the position and get frisked like some kind of convict; then you are herded down the chutes into the plane like so many cattle; and finally you assume your 2 square feet of space crammed up against your fellow travelers no matter what their size (good luck if you don't get placed between a couple of giants,) in a big aluminum tube like a bunch of sardines.

Then, you get through all the hassles of travel and get to stay in some place where a million people have been before, on some worn out bed that who knows what has taken place on before you get it, with strange covers, a strange pillow, a strange thermostat, and somehow you are supposed to get the combination of all these things just right for a good nights sleep? When your body is still accustomed to a different time zone? Good freaking luck. You'll be in a half-sleep daze the whole time. You body will not feel right. Whenever you do get home you will be very glad. And hopefully you don't get some strange illness you have no immuniities for because you don't live there. Best idea is to just stay where you live your life and make the best of it right where you are. If you can't be happy at home, going some place else is not going to change it. Use your money for some counseling and figure out how to deal with issues so you can truly be happy. That is money better spent.

Everyone should do themselves a favor. There is unique beauty to every place where people live. People travel from all over to see it. Learn what is nearby the home dwelling and enjoy it at times when the crowds are not there, from the comfort of home. Then suffice to read and watch about the rest of the world. Use your time to give back to your community in some way that inspires you. Make it better for succeeding generations. That's a life well lived.

Jimmy Carter got it right. Human character is not about what one owns. It is about what one does. He will go down in history as a truly great leader and an inspiration. The super-rich power mongers can take all their right wing hate mongering propaganda and stick it up their big greedy wealthy bank accounts. They can't take it with them.

The boardwalk is worth seeing once but it's nothing that special.

Of course this is silly. Do other adults still leave quarters under your pillow if you lose a tooth? Mom and dad didn’t have the heart to tell you the truth about Santa Claus?
Anyone and everyone cannot become anything and everything they desire. Humans have limitations. Part of maturing is knowing these limitations.

This does not mean everyone doesn't have opportunity. We all do. Entrepreneurs are the engine of the economy. Small business employs more than big business.

Get yourself a food truck. Get your truck listed in the top 100 on Yelp. Get money. That's how it works.

That's for chefs. Brainiacs design AI chips.

There is plenty of opportunity in the US economy. While big corporate interests control much, the storefronts in our communities are still owned by independent small businesspersons.

And they’re being crushed by big corporate interests that now use actual government control to generate their profit. See: Musk, Elon.

Are you claiming Bezos flies coach?

So, your solution for world peace is to stay home and browse the internet?

What on earth does that word salad mean?

I live in a highly scenic area. Highly unique. That's why I live here. Want some pictures?

And they’re being crushed by big corporate interests that now use actual government control to generate their profit. See: Musk, Elon.
But they're not. That was my point.

Big Blue Q of Tahoe is not being crushed by any corporation. The corporate world has not entered the food truck market, to my knowledge.

Positron is competing directly with Nvidia, so two highly intelligent entrepreneurs may in fact bring down a corporate giant.

Yes, Elon Musk has relied on government subsidy to support his operations. Musk's ex-partner JB Straubel has received government help, as well. Redwood Materials was granted a federal loan and has received the same perks available through Nevada state law as Musk was.

The point is opportunity. Everyone can start a business. What type of business and its breadth are limited. A trust fund baby can afford to buy a business or two. Others need to raise financing. A food truck can be purchased by those with collateral, such as a home, or good credit. A chip producing company requires investors. Good ideas backed by solid business plans attract capital, as Positron has done.

The framework is there.

Wow! Seems you don't like to travel.
1. BTW, Jimmy Carter was worth $10 million.
2. You can have money, enjoy it, travel, and still contribute to charities and do things to help society.
3. Have you done much travel? I have, and love it and appreciate the experience.
4. I find the cultural experiences to be educational and enlightening. I find most people to be friendly and engaging. I find the history fabulous. I find the airplane ride sometimes a pain in the butt, literally but all in all travel is great and almost every person I know who engages in it loves it and continues to travel both at home in the U.S. and abroad.
You should examine your travel regimen. There are lots of things you can do to make the experience fun, educational and exciting and to make the flight less stressful.
5. Last point. A friend of mine for nearly 60 yrs who has always said he didn't have much interest in traveling overseas, and found travel around the U.S. to be more to his liking recently called me and asked if my wife and I would plan a trip to Europe and go with he and his wife. He said he wanted to go see the D Day beaches and visit historical sites and cities in England and France. People broaden their horizons some times. Travel is a great way to do it.
6. I hope you have travel in your future and learn to appreciate it and find joy in the experience. Bon Voyage.

You can bring up anecdotal examples to your heart’s content. They don’t overcome the landslide of evidence that massive corps have crushed American life, and it’s become more acute under this admin. Musk doesn’t just rely on government contracts and subsidies for his companies, he literally put his hands on our agencies and cleared the way for his companies to have any obstacles removed - investigations into tesla’s autopilot crash record killed, in one example. Starlink was literally being pimped by our ambassadors to other nations. A.I. companies are aided by the government in their argument that they need to be able to freely steal others’ works in order for THEM to make a profit.

The frame work is there, but corporate interests in alignment with right wing oligarchy have created a crony capitilism economic dystopia that does not reward hard work, good ideas, and stick-to-it-ivenss. Look at Trump. An objective stupid guy, yet has been rewarded well past what his station in life should have been under a proper market of hard work and best ideas winning.

You can bring up anecdotal examples to your heart’s content.
So you can deny they exist. No thanks. If your argument is denial, I guess I'm wasting my time.

Might I suggest looking up your local city council minutes. I'm guessing, as is here, 90% of the applications involve small, independent business.

Everyone can start a business. Small business is the engine of the economy.

Don't start a business. You've already defeated yourself.

Meanwhile, in the real world of collective anecdotes, I bring you an entire district of small business owners.

Really kind of harming themselves as a lot of money would have gone into the City. The anger toward the wealthy really doesn't make a lot of sense.

It is not anger toward wealth. It is logic of seeing the result of the productivity of many going towards a few who do not give back to society in balance with what they have gotten. Greed is and always will be ugly.

Anyone who wants to be rich in America has the opportunity. Just get out there, formulate a business plan, and put it into action. You have a shot just like everyone else. On the other hand if you don't try you really shouldn't fault those who do.

There are many many people in this world who are quite adept enough to amass great wealth if that is what they choose to do. Most choose not to because most understand that wealth is not the end-all be-all of life. Love is. And love cannot be bought.

I know people who a prefectly happy living in a cabin in the woods and hunting an fishing all the time. Only work enough to fund their needs.

The are richer with time than anyone chained to managing a huge portfolio.

So wealth is great, but freedom is as well. The left needs to stop attacking people for having money.

Chintzy people of great wealth have always and will always come under the scrutiny of the public. No amount of piss talk is ever going to change that. There is this thing called philanthropy. It is vastly under-rated. Many wealthy people should try it. They should be like Buffett and advocate for the wealthy to pay more tax. The government is the organizational entity of our nation. Far more revenue should be paid into the government and the government should not be run by the rich, but instead by true public servants who actually listen to society and have the goal of truly making America greater for everyone. That would ideally mean ensuring that no person is left behind. Nobody falls through the cracks. P2025 is going to result in more homelessness, a national disgrace. We will know America is greater when there are no homeless. There is more than sufficient wealth in this nation to provide for everyone. No private entity is going to undertake that goal. It is the purview of the the government to do that. Government hatred is misplaced. It is purposely generated by big money funded right wing propaganda for the purpose of gaining control of government to exercise raw pure ugly greed. It is shameful.

The tax laws are made by Congress. If you don't like them call your Congress person.

A lot of good that is going to do. Most Congress people answer to big money. Most people can try to call their Congress person but that Congress person is so busy answering to big money the average person will never get a chance to speak to them in their entire life. Congress persons are insulated from their Constituents by layers of red tape. You can't have their actual phone number or email address. They have staff to run cover for them and intercept any great ideas and suggestions from the public. It is truly a pointless waste of time to attempt to communicate with your government 'representative.'

To make the nation greater so that none slip through the cracks and end up on the street. The greatness of a nation is not measured by the wealth of the wealthiest. It is measured by the lifestyles of the poorest.

The boardwalk is worth seeing once but it's nothing that special.
There are special things that can be seen near any home. It does not require a waste of big money and using vast quantities of fuel, energy and creating certain amounts of pollution to enjoy what is right nearby.

I believe there should be no billionaires; and that billionaires need to to pay more. However the fury over his wedding is dumb and a waste of time. Wealthy people wealthying. Who cares.

Letting greed do more greed is a violation of social patriotism.

No, I was referring to the statement you made. And calling something “anecdotal” isn’t denying its existence, it’s putting it in context. Context is’nt your friend in this exchange.
