Trump's health could fail, he could have an ethical failure or drop to an approval rating below 30%. In the midterms, the GOP took a beating in the suburbs. With a strong President, the discussion would have been if the GOP could achieve a filibuster proof 60 seats in the Senate in the 2018 midterms. Trump is the only game in town right now and a minor drag on the party. Who could best turn the GOP back into an electoral powerhouse?

Personally, I would like to see Senator Ben Sasse rise in prominence.

Nikki Haley would be a nice alternative to Trump in many many ways. She seems to be a figure you could build around and construct a new image for the GOP.

And since she served in the Trump administration and left on good terms, the mindless right wing Trumpkins probably would accept her... or at least not actively oppose her.

I don't know much about Sasse, but I do get the impression that any policies he would support, or put forth, will have had some thought behind them.

That alone would make him a huge improvement over what we currently have.

Honestly I think she'd fail, not enough brown people hate, that's essential for the base, they need the brown hate and to feel like we're racists for pointing out their racist fear of brown folks. Without that, it wouldn't be MAGA enough for them.

The Trump deplorables must be either flushed with the rest of the crap or ordered to shut up and sit in the back of the bus and just be happy they are not walking.

It would most likely be the Republican that captured the second most amount of votes, and that would be Ted Cruz.

That's just it, you all caught up in love with the buffoon, he's already failed. You guys just don't see it, but he's pandered to that 30% base and done nothing else. Except in the deepest of red states, he's poison to GOP candidates and they're slowly realizing it. You just lost an election by EIGH FREAKIN MILLION votes in a MID TERM! I know y'all wanna whistle in the dark walking by that cemetary, but that smell, well, it's roast goose, Trump goose. He's done, barring some collosal idiocy like running Hillary again, and hell, even then he might lose. He's done nothing to unite, only throw meat at the base, unless some astounding change occurs, the Trump **** is played and there is no future in it for the GOP, much as you old cantnkerous dyying white guys desperately cling to it, it's over for you with Trump, you're gonna have to find a path forward. Hoepfully with reasonable sane folk like Kasich, but I've my doubts that's possible at this point.

I agree with you but, the problem is, much of the right looks at Nancy Pelosi as a far left communist. And they will try and get even by electing someone just as right wing as they perceive the left to be more and more radical.

Chasing bat**** with bat****, predictable. Thing is, Teddy ain't winning crap, ever, incl;uding his next senate bid. Not only is he wholly unlikeable even among Republicans, he BARELY beat Beto, in slowly blueing but still deep red TEXAS! But also, he has none of Trump's smily glad hands pitch guy thing, and he's totally wimped out in front of the nation felating Trump after Trump publicaly made him a whipping boy to even get that victory. I get it, you like deep dumbass conservative policy, but Cruz is not winning crap, ever again, bank it!

that's merely a perception?

Sasse is a GOP Elite...meaning he is beholden to his globalist donors. He was a supporter of TPP. Supporting him for President would be like supporting Jeb Bush.

Haley has the right "America First" mentality, but I'm not sure she has a business/economic mentality on par with Trump. She does have the ability to stand up for her positions, but I'm not sure she could endure the same kind of constant, ferocious, negative barrage that Trump has endured. Her gender might help to reduce that kind of thing...might not. Trump's wife certainly hasn't been spared because of her gender. With the right set of economic advisors, she could certainly keep the country going in the right direction.

Frankly, I don't know of anyone who isn't a GOP Elite who would also have the strength to withstand the leftwing onslaught.

Pelosi is at best a moderate corporate sellout. People don't see it but it;s the freakin money needs to go. Pelosi does it legally, most of them do, but things as they are, donors control them, they are not for us. IDGAF if Ocasio-Cortez is naive, she's young, bright enough she will learn, she is right, we need to primary these fools out and get back to what the democratic party is about. We also need fighters, guys liek Richared Ojeda, I am impressed with that guy too.

But we need a lot less of people like Pelosi and Schumer, legally owned by donors and lobbyits, albeit maybe less evil than some on the other side, but owned the same. Progress can't be made till we change that, not real progress.

I also like Sasse. He’s very well educated, knows the political system, comes across as a straight shooter, and is one of very few Republicans who has been willing to call Trump out publicly.

It would most likely be the Republican that captured the second most amount of votes, and that would be Ted Cruz.
The Dems would love that come 2020.

I agree, but, looking like Pelosi will be speaker. Hopefully some strong progressives get representation on some committees.

I agree with you in that your Party won't be able to move forward until you dump the Elites like Pelosi and Schumer. But be careful. Going with an extremist like Ocasio-Cortez will screw y'all.

He's a corporte sellout too, but I like Schiff a bit, he's got some spine at least and he's gonna be serious about oversight, we need that right now and he's got the experience to get stuff done. Unfortunately we still need some of these dinosaurs and their experience to stand up against the **** show regime of Trump. That is the unfortunate part, but I like Schiff better than Pelosi or Schumer, god every time I think about Schumer I think the guy must have a tail, one that permanently resides between his legs, what a wuss! McConnel has made Schumer his bitch so many times it's a national embarassment! Someone PLEASE primary Schumer out of a job soon!

The worst part is McConnel isn't clever or hard to predict, he's not some master stateman, Schumer is just such a pathetic spineless milktoast, it's easy for Mitch to make him his bitch!

There are three major factions that make up the republican tent:

1. disenfranchised democrats [anti-progressivism liberals]
2. social conservatives
3. libertarians [fiscal conservatives]

You want a GOP powerhouse you'd need a figure who can successfully fight the anti-republican messaging well still attracting support from all 3 factions.

Ben Sasse would just be social conservatives taking change in the same way Trump is the disenfranchised or Rand Paul would be libertarian.

Uh Oh ... so we don't talk from different standards, maybe you can clarify who in Congress you consider radical Left.

I think there's an argument to be made the Kshama Sawant is radical left. But, my understanding of her is that she is actually a socialist.

When you say he barely beat Beto, you do realize Beto is a rising star in the Democrat party and likely to be a presidential nominee?

I would hope someone managing the Boy Scouts would step in and replace the leadership at the GOP.
At least they are required to have adult leadership.

Not at all the point. The point is Cruz will never win another election, ever, I'd lay money on it if I had mobney to spend on such frivolity, but alas I don't, I'd rather spend it on motorcycles ;)
