I disagree. The Left has moved further to the left in response to the Right moving further to the right.

The degree of the move has been greater on the Right , and that is why people are leaving.

Joe left for the same reason I did, and Steve Schultz did, and George Will did, and more and more are doing.

He left because the Republican Party became a sham and a disgrace. He did not leave because of his wife.

There is a split in the GOP between the ruling class and the deplorables.

There is also a split on the left between the ruling class and the progressives/socialists. It's the emergence of the latter that has some on the right talking about the left being "unhinged", an adjective that fits well enough for some of the young socialists but not for the liberal/left as a whole.

Deplorables: Nobody's more extreme than us.
Left: Hold my beer.

The appearance of these extremes is a direct result of the failure of the ruling class, left and right.

Only public persona I know of who left the GOP and became a Democrat is Kurt Bardella. Like myself, the people you speak of just left the GOP because it is the party of Trump now. They did not become "leftists".

More like the party left them when the radical right took over, if you ask them. Funny thing, other than trump being crude, they all supported the GOP mantra of government bad, taxes bad, immigration bad, social programs bad, job creators great, tax cuts for corporate america the job creators, great. Pro-life instead of pro-choice, great. Pro-gun, absolutely. The agenda hasn't changed just the faces at the top.

I do not see people leaving the GOP as something to do with the left. In fact I think it has to do more with Trump and his brand of nationalism/populism that is causing older Gopers to leave the party and become independents. In fact I see as the left moves farther left, that it forces those GOPers who leave the party to find themselves without a real party.

Joe left because the party left him. Had the party nominated Jeb Bush, or any normal Republican, Joe wouldn't have left it. Trump is the reason many of us left the party.

No Joe left the party, he was one of the most conservative republicans while in congress and then you can literally watch his views change during the course of morning joe which I used to watch every morning

Then you didn't watch him during the entire 2016 campaign. I did. He was advocating for Jeb Bush. Constantly.

He rejected Trump. Lots of us do.

The GOP became the party of Trump and made it clear that if you didn't support Trump 100%, you were no longer welcome. Anyone who questioned Trump became persona non grata.
