Stone and Manafort are the kind of liars one can never trust.
The way Mueller brought down the hammer on Stone, suggests he has no intention of asking for his cooperation. He knows Stone's just like Manafort, and will waste his time with games.
Above and beyond that, it looks like from the indictment that Mueller already knows who in the campaign was aware of this effort, and has his own plans to go about holding those people accountable for their part in the cover-up.

I think that they are refusing to take part in the effort to burn America down to burn Trump out, which is the right call.
