It's hard to speculate about what would've happened to MLK if he'd lived to be older.
Maybe he would've become a corrupt scumbag.

Given that MLK was considered a socialist a communist and anti american by the American government of his time, I expect Glen Beck would consider him to be a socialist, communist and anti american as well

Beck would probably have a huge problem with this statement.

A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies. On the one hand we are called to play the good Samaritan on life's roadside; but that will be only an initial act. One day we must come to see that the whole Jericho road must be transformed so that men and women will not be constantly beaten and robbed as they make their journey on life's highway. True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring. A true revolution of values will soon look uneasily on the glaring contrast of poverty and wealth. With righteous indignation, it will look across the seas and see individual capitalists of the West investing huge sums of money in Asia, Africa and South America, only to take the profits out with no concern for the social betterment of the countries, and say: "This is not just." It will look at our alliance with the landed gentry of Latin America and say: "This is not just." The Western arrogance of feeling that it has everything to teach others and nothing to learn from them is not just. A true revolution of values will lay hands on the world order and say of war: "This way of settling differences is not just." This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of people normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love. A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.

I doubt very seriously that Dr. King would be a friend of Glenn Beck, considering along with racial equality, Dr. King supported an Economic Bill of Rights and the redistribution of wealth as one of the routes to fixing black poverty.

I'd even guess Beck would call Dr. King a racist, because Dr. King frequently talked about "the white man" and frequently told "the white man" what to do.

Now - I'm not saying that Beck is a racist - so don't ****ing drag that card into play. What I'm saying is that Dr. King had economic views that Beck would utterly disagree with and I therefore think Beck would spend a lot of his time criticizing Dr. King. And I guarantee you that King would've voted for Obama over McCain / Palin.

What?

Oh, right, you're referring to the bull**** smear campaign run against the man by a government that was terrified ****less of him.

Yeah, seeing as how Beck is part of the machine, he'd put the man on his chalkboard.

Of course. King was a radical, a labor organizer and an anti-racist. Beck is the leader of a movement whose defining characteristic is white racism.

The civil rights movement would have advanced faster, that's for sure.

Glenn Beck would still be irrelevant though.

He already has been on the chalkboard as one of our greatest leaders in the civil rights movement.

But should show you what a phony hypocrite Glenn Beck is. MLK stood for many things Beck rallies against. Social Justices, social programs.

Beck pretends to be for civil rights, but it's a very twisted version of the Constitution.

MLK was a serial philanderer and had significant communist connections. I know you believe that's heresy, but I don't subscribe to the apotheosis of anyone.

Hello?

Social justice is the antithesis of "civil rights". When somoene is agitating for the government to steal property from people to throw it at other, favored, political subgroups, that's wrong, immoral, and, oh, by the way, unconstitutional.

Clearly social programs are also unconstitutional. MLK's stance in favor of these collectivist socialist handouts marks him ultimately as an enemy of American freedom.

Discrimination against people on race = bad. BUT, if a private person chooses to conduct his business only with a selected race, that's how he's expressing his freedom in a country that is supposed to be free. Restricting the invidual's freedom violates his civil rights. Period.

That's that. When, however, the government, which has a lawful monopoly on the use of force and the responsibility to act in all the people's interests, the government should not be allowed to discriminate.

The people are one group, the government is another. The Civil Rights laws and the silly notions of "social justice" want to pretend that the people should be constrained by the same rules the government is supposed to be shackled with. And that ain't the case.

Yeah, right there with Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Thomas Paine, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln. All the Democrats were busy with the KKK.

Now if Im understanding the question correctly, your asking if Dr King would stand on the same side as Beck? Im going to say no because Dr King wouldve been disgusted with the Patriot Act and Neocon warmongering.

That's a pretty meaningless statement all things considered. My sister, who is a lot closer relative than a niece, agrees with me on a total of 1 political issue, SSM.

Judging by how Lil Beck aka Scarecrow is acting I would say if he was still active in civil rights then yeah probably, but by this time Mr King would be very old or possibly have already passed away from natural causes so it is hard to tell. Does Beck ever talk about Malcolm X at all? I think a better question is, is if he was alive would Mr King appreciate what Beck did?

Not only do I think he wouldn't, Beck would have never even mentioned King nor had King's niece there in the first place.

No clue. I did a fundraising drive thing for the board in the offtopic section, and Mega donated to the board for the right to pick my avatar for a month. Still need 25 bucks for the month, so check out the thread.

The Beck and Palin adorers sends shivers down my spine. It reminds me of the naive Germans that ate up everything the Fuhrer said which eventually led them to slaughter and the ruin of their country. No Beck and Palin are no Hitlers but these money grubbing opportunists have a lot of potential to cause a lot of harm while they laugh all the way to the bank.

If you knew anything at all about Beck, you would know that he is a great admirer of MLK.
