Hello! I'm new here and would like to put a topic up for debate (since that seems to be the purpose of this place). I don't know if this has been a poll before, since I didn't look through all of the previously existing polls. Also this poll goes back to 2004 so I hope you don't mind discussing what may have been.

So anyhow, a topic I had been debating with some of my co-workers. If John Kerry had been elected president in 2004, what do you think the current troop levels in Iraq would be?

We would all be speaking Arabic.......

So then am I to assume that you think Kerry would have pulled all of the troops out of Iraq, consequences be damned?

Edit

Just out of curiosity, what sort of time frame do you think he would have used? Just yank them all out right away? wait a while and pull them all out, or reduce the number gradually?

If John Kerry had been elected everything important would be the same.

Pay no attention to Navy... on any thread referencing Iraq (or Muslims in general) he will pop in with something along those lines. He doesn't add much to debates, but it's fun to make him prove his points (he hasn't succeeded yet it my experience).

As to your question- I think that as the death toll went up and the war became unpopular, Kerry would have begun taking out troops (starting late 2005) and trying to decrease funding. Since Kerry would have probably stopped or prevented most of the other unpopular Bush practices, the House and Senate would still have gone blue in 2006, and the troops would be out of the mideast hellhole by now.

P.S. Welcome to Debate Politics! :wcm

Thank you, that's the kind of response I was looking for, what you think the number would be and why. I'd love to get some more opinions on what would have happened.

I think Kerry would have surrendered to Bin Ladin and I am serious...

I can't answer your poll

The truth hurts my left wing friend and Kerry lover......

We would have definitely surrended or succumbed to total withdrawl as was his want in 1972-3 for the Vietnam war. His membership in the VVAW (Vietnam Veterans Against the War) kind of gives you a clue as to his dovish intent. Perhaps we could ask the Swift Boat veterans what they think Kerry would do. Thanks for showing and comparing the differences between Bush a resolve-minded Commander-in-Chief verse Kerry a member of a group that has bashed the American military, and opted to surrender at all costs. Sure wish the Dems would draft Kerry for the 2008 presidential elections.

Yeah....Navy is the biggest cut and runner on these boards. Despite all his "tough" talk....he will run whenever you call him on a question.....he's harmless though....and actually a lot of fun.

As for Kerry. I think we would probably still be in Iraq...our numbers would be decreased, but I don't think that Kerry would have had the backbone to have gotten us out of Iraq by now. I do think that things would be better....internationally, Iraq and domestically....but then again....that's just easy......there really isn't anyone who could be worse than GWB.

So between those that say there would be less and those that say we would have surrendered...regardless of view the overall assumption is at least a partial reduction? Making sure I'm interpreting right.

Anyone other than Dick & Bush would've made this country and the world a far better place.

If Kerry got elected we would still be in Iraq today.

We were in Vietnam for 15 years! How many American's do you want to kill before you can go down to your local bar and brag how we kicked a.s.s again?
