If COVID is bad in the summer, is it going to get worse in the winter?

As of mid-August, the state was averaging 244 deaths per day, up from just 23 a day in late June and eclipsing the previous peak of 227 during the summer of 2020. (Because of both the way deaths are logged in Florida and lags in reporting, more recent figures on fatalities per day are incomplete.)

Hospitals have had to rent refrigerated trucks to store more bodies. Funeral homes have been overwhelmed.

COVID in Florida is really bad right now. COVID usually gets worse in winter when everyone is shuttered inside.

Yes it will get worse. People are more likely to congregate indoors during cooler weather.

COVID is definitely not over.

Some politicians and health officials may be secretly glad that it is not, for they can keep their arbitrary power over us nobodies forever.

But some thoughtful and impartial health observers say that we just have to get used to COVID being around forever, as is the flu.

Not only will more people be indoors but viruses apparently like lower humidity.

Impossible to tell. Pandemic waves seem to peter out on their own after a few months regardless of what we do - look at the delta wave in other countries, the previous waves of Covid and the 4 waves of the 1918 pandemic - so it’s not clear that delta will still be around in the winter.
