Just curious if Bernie is successful at pulling Hillary way to the left at the convention does that help her or hurt her in the general election against Trump?

The problem here is that she will say what she has to say, but it has zero bearing on what she will actually do if elected. She is the perfect liar, with no emotional attachment to the balance of truth vs lie. Her life is an example of "do what you have to do to win".

She will make the promises, I guarantee you that. The only one she will follow up on is amnesty to further push the conservative middle class into oblivion.

I would say that hurts her seeing how Sanders is only in the race to make Clinton look moderate.

Hillary is a left of center hawk. In addition, she is predatory in the sense that her focus is on defeating all rivals and rewarding friends be they in politics, business, or academia. She is not "left" or "right". She is "ME, MY, and MINE".

Not so scary until you realize she has the tools to do it. For example, the Clinton Foundation for a few million now will regain the tools to disadvantage a company in a bid in a Saudi oilfield in order to help a "donor". And in the international arena, it will be a crime without fingerprints.

This is not a "left" vs "right" issue.

what is said on the campaign trail or at the convention doesnt matter one bit. when the pols in dc sit down the compromise will be what it will be. remember, the election will go to which of the sorry excuses can get the most people out to vote.

It is more politically important to appease the Bernie supporters (who will vote D) than to try to get moderates (who may not vote at all) to dislike her less than they dislike Trump. You are spot on that Hillary, like many politicians, will say what the polls indicate works best but then to do what is needed to fund their campaign.

He may pull her rhetoric to the left, but Hillary is a corporate politician, Republocrat status quo...she won't actually change.

it depends on two things

1)how polished Trump is by the general
2)how far left Hillary has swung
ok I lied,
3) What specific issues are in play during the last month of the election and how far left hillary swings on them.

a far left position on gun control, abortion, and immigration would put her outside the norm of the american voter, however few people actually vote soley on one issue anyway.

I think its a wash in that she is running against Trump - 2016's George Wallace, so unless she gets caught molesting a 5 year old, she is going to win easily regardless of her positions on the issues.

Bernie supporters are in the drivers seat.

The Democrats can not win without the Bernie Gang, and they know it.

People claim that Bernie's Gang will vote for Hillary just to stop Trump.

But, Bernie's supporters realize that there is no "substantive" difference between the two main parties.

They just play musical chairs and give the illusion of a functioning democracy.

Hillary has not talked real "Policy" since her campaign began, but Bernie's Gang has been talking policy since day one.

Bernie's Gang is scheduled to gather at the People's Summit in Chicago on June 17th.
The People's Summit - The People's Summit The People's Summit

They are going to insist on Bernie going to the convention and to bring the "Policy Issues" to the floor for debate in addition to challenging the super delegates.

The uproar at the convention will show just how "Insincere" Hillary really is.

When Hillary suggests that Trump "Delete" his account and drop out of the race even though he is the nominee, then why can't Bernie's Gang demand the same thing from Hillary?

Trump is not the only candidate building walls.

Both the Republicans and Democrats are going to build huge walls around both convention centers to keep the voters out.

In a sense, every American is being called a "Suspect" (a possible terrorist) in the Suspect Nation.

People that vote pro-gun always vote Republican regardless of who the Democrat is. The same is true for those that vote pro-life. The immigration issue on balance helps Democrats as they benefit from minority votes. All Hillary has to do is look competent and not a racist or bigot and she will easily win. Republicans already get the white vote. Romney got a higher percentage of the white vote than even Reagan got. There is no more of the white vote for Trump to get. What Republicans have to do in order to win in the general is pick up at least 40% of the Hispanic vote as Bush did in 2004. Trump does not stand a chance in hell of doing that. He has given the Hillary camp more than enough quotes and twitter postings to run the most effective negative ad campaign against him since at least LBJ / Goldwater. Not only is Trump going to lose in the general, he will lose big, and at least take the senate with him. All this running against a weak candidate like Hillary. All the Republicans had to do was nominate a moderate center right candidate and they would have easily won. Instead they nominated the worst candidate they could have possibly found (other than maybe Ted Cruz).

Neither side wants a replay of the 1968 Democrat convention. Cops, gas, clubs, dogs, TV coverage. They want it to look like a normal Kumbaya day in the quad with the peace pipe of your choice being passed about. (as they plot your demise!)

i fully agree with your first paragraph.

But to the second paragraph: While she's a pure salesmen to minorities, I wouldn't necessarily say they can count on her deeds & actions equaling her words.

We all remember the Donald standing in the schoolhouse doorway turning away black children. Segregation forever he shouted!

Thanks for this post - there's a lot I agree with here.

I was not aware of this event (summit), but am going to look into it & will consider attending. While it got a little hairy down there, I very much regret not having gone to the Chicago Trump rally & demonstrations. I had tickets to get inside too, and am kicking myself 'till today.

I think Bernie may throw his support behind Clinton soon, but in a unique way: I think it's possible he keeps his email & donor list proprietary, and keeps his movement & voting bloc his own! In other words, he'll keep and direct his army as he sees fit, depending on the Madame Secy's concessions to him, leaving open the possibilities of his group supplying a candidate for a later run in another cycle.

And I very much think he should do what I described above. At the very least, he can strongly influence policy, and at best he is fostering a movement that may be bordering on a new party. Rather than achieve his life-long dream of growing the Socialist Party, he managed to fall into great success (eclipsing that of the Socialist Party) by creating a Dem-Socialist wing of the Dem Party! And he is the head!

It's really great seeing this grandfather figure earning such enthusiastic support of youths that could be his grandkids, and it reminds me of the quip:

"Why do grandparents & grandkids get along so famously? Common enemy"!

We live in exciting times!

"Why do grandparents & grandkids get along so famously? Common enemy"!

I am reminded of this when it comes to Grandparents.

"One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, 'My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.'
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?'
The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’"

I think your analysis is excellent, and Steve Kornacky (MSNBC) has been preaching the same for a week or more.

1] Romney lost with a recent high 59% white vote (more than Reagan).

2] Trump's strategy is to eschew (alienate!) minorities, concentrating on further increasing pulling the white vote!

So where does he find these white votes?

I just don't see it, unless he can put some additional states into play by siphoning-off disenfranchised white Dem voters (a'la Reagan Democrats). It may be possible, but I doubt it.

And Trump's 'white voters' aren't just 'white voters,' but 'older white voters'! He's not pulling the younger whites as well as he pulls the older.

But it gets even worse: Most of the swing-states needed to secure the nomination (where the EC is won or lost) are substantially Hispanic! The very demographic he's been accusing of rape, murder, and being unfit to enter the american judiciary! Yowza!

He won't find more votes amongst Hispanics, and Hillary seems to have the black vote sewn-up (and she will have an even tighter grip on African-Americans when Obama starts campaigning for her). So Trump better figure-out a way to pull even more white votes out of those swing-states somehow.

Depends on what you mean by 'way to the left' of course, where your conception of it, as a conservative poster from an American frame of reference, is probably not comparable to mine.

The same fools, will still vote for Crooked Hillary.

I'de say the conservative class are already most of the way to "oblivion". They have no one left to even vote for. It was inevitable. It is time for them to get on with their lives and stop worrying about politics.

So which progressive bills passed by Congress do you think she will veto? Or do you want more executive orders?

Is someone assuming that Sen. Sanders is to the left of Sen. Clinton? I think Sen. Sanders might actually be an ideologue but I think Sen. Clinton and Mr. Trump are more compatible and "if they money's there we do not care". Sen. Clinton will be left, right, or center depending on where the power, and therefore the money, can be found.

As a conservative, I don't think so. We haven't had a fiscal conservative, or even a fiscal moderate, to vote for in a long time. That doesn't mean we have to quit worrying about what the communist and the socialist and the progressives and those who hate America are doing to the country.

Democrat and progressives should remember that leftists dictators always kill their own.

It might be a good move for the consrvative middle class to move over to the liberal middle class if Hillary gets elected.
