IDF deploys full missile defenses against Syria

Following the recent threats from Assad's regime the IDF takes no chances:

I don't believe Assad will dare.

Isaiah 17
New International Version (NIV)
A Prophecy Against Damascus

17 A prophecy against Damascus:

“See, Damascus will no longer be a city
but will become a heap of ruins.
2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted
and left to flocks, which will lie down,
with no one to make them afraid.
3 The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim,
and royal power from Damascus;
the remnant of Aram will be
like the glory of the Israelites,”
declares the Lord Almighty.
4 “In that day the glory of Jacob will fade;
the fat of his body will waste away.
5 It will be as when reapers harvest the standing grain,
gathering the grain in their arms—
as when someone gleans heads of grain
in the Valley of Rephaim.
6 Yet some gleanings will remain,
as when an olive tree is beaten,
leaving two or three olives on the topmost branches,
four or five on the fruitful boughs,”
declares the Lord, the God of Israel.
7 In that day people will look to their Maker
and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel.
8 They will not look to the altars,
the work of their hands,
and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles[a]
and the incense altars their fingers have made.
9 In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation.

10 You have forgotten God your Savior;
you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress.
Therefore, though you set out the finest plants
and plant imported vines,
11 though on the day you set them out, you make them grow,
and on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud,
yet the harvest will be as nothing
in the day of disease and incurable pain.
12 Woe to the many nations that rage—
they rage like the raging sea!
Woe to the peoples who roar—
they roar like the roaring of great waters!
13 Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters,
when he rebukes them they flee far away,
driven before the wind like chaff on the hills,
like tumbleweed before a gale.
14 In the evening, sudden terror!
Before the morning, they are gone!
This is the portion of those who loot us,
the lot of those who plunder us.

BTW, about the US strike, they'll want it as early as possible so as to give Assad as little time as possible to prepare, but they also have to give Israel some time to get ready. A nighttime attack makes sense for tactical reasons and they'll probably want to get it done before the weekend (to prevent a problematic recruitment of IDF reserves on the Sabbath) so my money is on a US strike thursday night.

What about the rest of you? When do you think the strike will take place (if at all)?

Personally, I think the first attack will be a preemptive strike against Iran and its nuclear facilities - it's the perfect time, the perfect excuse, for both Israel and the Americans to do what they've been hinting at for several years and Iran fell into the trap by threatening Israel should Syria be hit.

The talk is on a limited assault on Assad, something to tell him he crossed the line, if so he will still have the upper hand. Assaulting Israel, when Damascus is 60km from the border means he'll need to find a more distant presidential palace, and I think those distant areas are under control of the FSA.

They'll also want to get it all done before Rosh haShana :p

U.S. hasty intervention has broad implications internationally. Russia is sticking by Syria and has warned of catastrophic consequences with China backing Russia.

WTF are they going to do? Go to war with the US?

Probably not overtly, but what difference does it make if we are harmed because of international political games? :sinking:

Obama wants to give a shot at war. We will see how he manages his war machinery. Toying around with the 400 or so Tomahawk missiles is a good start.

Russia already stated they oppose any action against Assad but that they will not react to such action.

Iran will have no choice since an attack on Syria will mean cutting Iran's access to the sea :) ...

More threats from Syria:

The Syrian air force is considering using kamikaze pilots against attacks by western forces, a Syrian army officer operating air defences near Damascus has claimed in an interview with the Guardian.

The officer said 13 pilots had signed a pledge this week saying they would form "a crew of suicide martyrs to foil the US warplanes".

The Assad loyalist, in his 30s and serving with the Syrian army's air defence section 10 miles from the capital, said: "If the US and British armies launch a single rocket we will launch three or four, and if their warplanes raid our skies they will face hell fire.

"If we are unable to shoot down their warplanes with artillery, we have military pilots who are ready to attack these foreign warplanes by their own warplanes and blow them up in the air."

Interesting how desperate the Syrians sound, someone has to brief them that in 2013 airplanes are shot down from miles away.
