I haven't owned a home since my last one burned down in the late 70's. Never wanted home ownership again. But all that changed with Hurricane Ike. When it came through Houston a few years ago, we were inside the eye wall for 9 hours. My wife, who is disabled and suffers from schizophrenia, hasn't been the same since. She freaks out every time there is a thunderstorm. So, for her, I decided that we are going to get away from Houston and the Gulf coast altogether. 2 weeks ago, I found a nice home a few miles outside of Woodville, Texas, and after some negotiations back and forth, I will be signing a contract this coming week. The closing should be about 6-8 more weeks from then. I will be going offline for a couple of weeks to do the move and get situated, and when I get back here, it will no longer be from Houston. It will be just like the song our bandleader wrote, 5 Miles Past Nowhere, where there are no more hurricanes... Well, at least not the worst part of them. LOL. My wife is happy, since she grew up in the country. I grew up in Flint and Detroit Michigan, and spent the last 40 years in Houston, but I think I can get used to this.

But I won't be retiring any time soon. Worked a deal with my boss at work. Since I can control the work computer completely from home, I will be telecommuting, and actually going into the office just once a week. As for the music, I will still be doing that, although getting to the gigs in Galveston will be a pain in the ass. To me, retiring is to sit around, waiting to die, and I have no intention of doing that. When they finally plant my sorry ass in the ground, that will be the day I retire, and may it be many, many years from now. LOL.
