Here's an interesting analogy:

Neighborhood bar. People in town have been going there for years to have a drink, a friendly argument, play darts, whatever. It's a landmark to them. They're comfortable.
Then one day, some not too bright thugs walk in. They're loud, they're dumb, they wanna get drunk and they don't like these nice locals.
But the nice locals, they don't want to fight these big dumb guys, so they leave...never to return.

One simple thing would probably change his thinking, but as long as anyone's getting any mileage out of it, it will take a while if at all.
"Civility a must" seems to have a couple of tears in it and even though there's a place for less civility, it's really become what the names imply.
I made a donation, po' as I am, because I feel I should contribute to the space I'm using up. It is obvious some don't care about that at all and just go about their business spewing crap ad nauseum, wasting bandwidth, contributing nothing to the discussions and learning nothing because they don't want to. They are like party crashers who just take all the beer and run. Just my 2c.....

I love tecoyah's posts, and I am going to miss him (I wonder if I would say that if he was a con (yes)). tecoyah, we all get rattled by posters on this board. I find that when I take a break from things that I am able to get over my rattleness and come back as a stronger person in that the things that bothered me before no longer bother me.

I am one of the posters who would welcome you back with open arms. :2wave:

You've 'threatened' to leave, whined about moderation technique and choices, insulted same, become chauvinistic and petty when you run out of every other legitimate intellectual weapon and make site comparisons.
And yet...you're still here....
If someone says they're gonna lurk, come back from time to time, cut back, etc., I don't see hypocrisy. What I see is someone saying the likes of you and a few others just isn't worth the time and futility. You can't possibly be giving anything your best shot...what's been shown thus far couldn't put a hole in a barn door at 5 paces.
