Gen Milley is probably the closest American with a finger on the Russian pulse than anyone else in the US thanks to his ongoing relationship with Russia's Gen Gerasimov. Milley has dealt with a flaming nutcase before that brought him to work behind the scenes in order to keep nations as free as possible from nuclear disaster. I can't imagine his concerns any lesser now that Putin has started screwing the pooch.
From my reading Milley is no different than past Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. When the Capitol riots were going down he was in direct communications with his counterparts in China (and Russia and who-cares-where) who were concerned about a coup and if that would mean -- as concerned CN -- an immenate attack on them.
