Surgeons wear masks for the same reason infected individuals do (or should), to prevent contaminating another.
They do work. Scientific research shows this.
I did. Purell too. But I tend to be considerate of others like that.
Fewer particles means less chance of becoming infected by one and less viral load. That's what masks do.

This is not what I said. The OP is about masks and not hand washing.No, but the idea was that if you left your place, the to wash your hands when you got home, or when you could. Not asking for the average person to act like a nurse or doctor, simply to do more than the norm to help protect yourself.
BTW, I find it amusing that you made an argument for not washing your hands a little more frequently than usual during a pandemic.

They colluded and schemed to keep off Twitter ANY and all information they disagreed with. Normally a private company would fight that sort of thing but Twitter was owned and operated by extreme left-wingers and employees, with 98% of them being Democrats. They had no problem doing the FBI's bidding and went along with what the FBI and Democrats and government officials in the CDC and NIH said was "disinformation" and deleted it or hid it and canceled those who posted it.

Indeed. Simple logic alone can tell someone a properly worn mask is better than no mask at all. Asian countries don masks whenever there's an outbreak, like during the times of the bird/swine flu. It's practically a cultural expectation in such instances. Everyone knows now wearing a rancid snotrag isnt wise.We all know that Fauci essentially said that masks don't work in early March of 2020 by saying they MAY stop just a few droplets but don't provide the level of protection people think they do. Less than a month later, most likely after people told him that it was a bad thing to say, he did an about-face and recommended masks. No one here nor Fauci explained why the change of mind. People here said "Oh, additional evidence must have come about." and, as usual, no one can say what this additional evidence was. The statement was political because someone told him "We are screwed if we don't give the public something" and so that brought about the giant face placebo.
If you try to do a search about the topic you get referred to the CDC recommendations continually, even if you use a search term of what aerobiologists say about the efficacy of masks. This is strange because the CDC has NOT relied on ANY reports from the real experts....the aerobiologists, in its recommendations. So, just what is the CDC relying on? All I can figure out is the lab experiment where they tested how far coughs and sneezes without masks would go and if a cloth mask would stop them. These people at the CDC are scientists? Those droplets of water are HUGE compared to airborne particulates and therefore, the CDC has relied for three years on tests that do not represent how Covid is mainly spread. I imagine there are a few occasions where some idiot may cough or sneeze on someone but that happens as rare as a snowfall in LA. Therefore, I think at this point, we can all agree that the main form of transmission is airborne droplets which are far smaller than some errant one-in-a-million sneeze in your face.

Note here that they are saying DOUBLE LAYER MASKS, too, and not a single-layer mask that everyone used. Note too that they say "as much as", meaning it was less. Now let's examine this logically and rationally of why masks are INEFFECTIVE!
A study published in the journal Scientific Reports found that an infected person who is walking and wearing a single-layer cloth mask can expel an average of 300 virus particles with each breath. This is significantly lower than the number of particles expelled by an infected person who is not wearing a mask (1,000 particles). This means that a mask stops a whopping 70% as per above. A person takes 12-16 breaths per minute. Let's be fair and use the low end of 300 virus particles expelled and 12 breaths a minute. That is 3600 virus particles per minute. If you are at a store, a mall, an office, or anywhere, you are there for at least 30 minutes and in many cases, far longer. An infected person will emit 108,000 virus particles (3,600 times 30 minutes) and remember this is using the high estimate that a mask stops 70% of the particles. And, this is assuming that only ONE person in that entire store or mall or office had Covid.

As this is getting long I need to conclude. The number of COVID-19 viruses needed to infect someone is anywhere from a hundred to a few thousand. If you are masked up in a building, you are exposed to 108,000 COVID-19 Virus from someone with COVID-19 and while he is WEARING a mask. It is of little consolation to think that you are just fine because the mask stops up to 70% when the 30% it does NOT stop = a lethal dose. It's like still drowning because a lake is down by 70% but the water is still over your head.
