Lloyd Gruber, the author of the article at the link below, “I’m Sorry-I Badly Underestimated Trump’s Appeal”, admits he viewed the “Trump phenomenon” as fleeting part of the political process. Since he is a political scientist, the mistake he made is understandable. The success Trump is enjoying is not that of a concerned political candidate, it is nothing more than his ability to tap into the primitive mob mentality of white conservatives.

As stated by Dr. Wendy James, Ph.D. in addressing mob mentality and violence, “One dog may bark at you but it’s more likely that a pack will attack you.” The Donald is that barking dog. His mindless generalizations used in the verbal attacks he launches on targeted individuals and groups validate the hatred and intolerance already rampant in his bigoted supporters.

During the past few decades the Republican Party carefully developed the conservatives’ mistaken belief that they have the right to reinterpret Bible quotations and Constitutional law in ways to justify forcing their oppressive agenda on people of the United States and the world. This “right to reinterpret” asserted by most conservatives has been exploited by Trump to a far greater extent than any Republican candidate dared attempt in the past.

Trump is constantly hurling racist accusations, homophobic and xenophobic rants, and he has taken the misogyny of the GOP to levels never seen before. Until the Trump presidential campaign, such hate-speech was confined to KKK rallies, lynch mobs, and the backyard bar-b-ques of drunken, wife-beating rednecks.

Trump's skill at manipulating the minds of his supporters makes it most likely that the violent protests at his political events are orchestrated by Trump himself. It is a ploy to further instill the mob mindset necessary to his success. The simple minds of his supporters are incapable of suspecting there new hero of such duplicity.

Realizing this, Lloyd Gruber need not apologize for underestimating Trump's appeal to the bigoted right wing. What Gruber believed to be a political campaign snowballed, and is continuing to expose the extremely negative psychological aspect of human behavior known as mob mentality.

Hopefully, this will be the most shameful point of U.S. history during the 21st century. A brief era that will provide lessons so embarrassing to the U.S public they will never permit them to be repeated.

So the theory is that the right wing is so enthralled with running the US based on the Bible they have chosen a candidate who has never read the Bible in his life...

And which party is claiming to be the party of logic?

I think most thinking people under-estimated how many fools would actually support someone like Donald Trump.

No shame in over-estimating the intelligence of the electorate...even the part that claims to be with the GOP.

Sounds like more of the same old, same old from the kook left.

There are good points, lots of people misunderstood the appeal of Trump, because TRUMP himself is a despicable character. However, a conman who has spent a lifetime hyping himself, his products, his services knows how to play to people to get what he wants. He's really not that different from the likes of PT Barnum, and just as cynical. Trump's progressive, big government philosophy should have been a major turn off to many conservatives. However, the anger at the GOP and Trump's ability to woo the masses... and little things like getting the Federal Government out of our lives, reducing government, adhering to the Constitution... are willfully ignored by the energy of the moment. Obama was the left's cult like leader, Trump is the rights. Trump SHOULD NOT BE HERE, but he is, thanks to the incompetence of the GOP for the last 8 years, the last few decades of cowering and collusion with the left. They haven't stood for anything they promised, not really. The real irony is, a man whose own stated views and opinions are so much that, left of center, so much progressive liberal at heart... Managed to win the GOP party... It astounds the mind.

People still don't understand it. It has nothing at all to do with policy, politics or Trump himself. The right is saying it is out of patience with the federal government and is trying to blow up the establishment. They want a loose canon who might actually shoot some of the bureaucracy. Stupid right? No, stupid left for wanting to continue with same government that has been screwing us for decades. I doubt Trump will win and I doubt the government will get the message. But that is obviously what is behind the Trump phenomenon. Tell the professors to take their PHD's back to campus where they belong.

Trump is simply the personification of the noise from the right wing noise machine for the last 7 or 8 years. The people voting for him have had their head there for all that time, pull it out for the election, look around and there is a guy saying all the stuff echoing about their heads. He is a birther for goodness sakes. If the Donald gets elected it will take a lot more than the far right wing base.

Except Trump is a BIG GOVERNMENT guy, the people angry at the Government are behind a guy who loves government.

He's not attracting the far right wing, that's just partisan hackery claptrap.

Which partisan? I truly think the libs are thrilled the Repubs are running this nut job.

There are plenty, and I mean plenty, of Dems out there that cannot stand The Queen of Corruption or Comrade BS that are voting for DJT. SO it's not simply a "GOP" thing. Many American from all political stripes are pissed off at gov't. And rightfully so. Nothing I have seen would make DJT any worse than the pure sh*t we've had over the last 7 yrs. So, what's the diff? Not a damn thing. LMAO

I personally do not care for any of the people running for prez, so it make little difference which clown gets in there. All politicians suck, they rank down there with used car salesmen, and that's an insult to the used car salesman. LOL

The OP and comments in this thread tell me that the left still doesn't understand Trump, they don't understand conservatives, they comfort themselves with self serving delusions, and they are full of hatred toward those with whom they disagree. Meanwhile, Trump is beating them like a drum at their own game.

No shame in over-estimating the intelligence of the electorate...even the part that claims to be with the GOP.

George W Bush was re-elected AFTER invading Iraq and Barack Obama was elected purely on the color of his skin and nothing else. It is IMPOSSIBLE to underestimate the intelligence of the electorate. Fools abound.

Which partisan? Right or left? Not really that hard of a question.

Partisan hackery. The whole thing

They don't care as long they think he might blow the place up. It isn't about Trump or what he thinks or says.

why would smart people support a goofy socialist or a lying bitch?

why would smart people support a goofy socialist or a lying bitch?

I don't think they would, Dude.

But Bernie Sanders is not a "goofy socialist" and Hillary Clinton is not a "lying bitch." Both are people running for high office...people with lots of faults and defects like all people have.

The thing is, they are both a MUCH BETTER choice for the job for which they aspire...than anyone the Republicans have offered in their stead...ESPECIALLY the winner of the GOP contest.

i reject that-if you support less government interference and more prosperity, goofy Bernie is the worst choice and second worst is Hillary.

But, but, but...... That's not what it says in Two Corinthians! And the reason the IRS is picking on Trump is because he is such a well known christian. LOL!

Obviously we disagree.

That happens.

yeah some of us want less government control-others want the government to take care of them

I woulda said, "Some of us want society to function reasonably...others prefer chaos and anarchy"...but, I guess that is just something else we disagree on.
