To all:

This is less a conspiracy theory and more of a hypothetical "what if" scenario, however since it deals with speculation in the absence of facts, this forum seems appropriate for my question to others. This question should not be seen as incitement of any kind but as a "what if" situation for the purposes of generating forethought and discussion concerning political stability and political polarisation in America. This question will probably provoke strong passions, so I ask you all to leave such emotions at the door.

The question is what would be the societal, social, political and security impacts of a successful assassination of President Trump? This thread is not about whether such an assassination should or should not happen - it should most definitely not happen. Just take it as an hypothetical given that the president has been assassinated. For whatever reason the sitting President of the United States of America has been assassinated using long range gun fire by an angry and radicalised American citizen with no ties to any foreign country or organisation. The assassin is male, Caucasian, ex-military and has no links to any domestic group or organisation. He is a political independent He is a lone-wolf who got lucky and hit his mark. Only the president was killed by the assassin and the assassin was identified and apprehended alive by Federal authorities.

Discuss the expected ramifications on the American state, American society, American politics, the international system and peace, order and governance in America and abroad.

Again this is not incitement but rather a hypothetical, "what if" designed to get people to think about how such a criminal act could effect and affect America. Let's keep it civil please.

Cheers and thank you in advance for your respectful and reasoned contributions to this thread.

1. There would be wild celebrations in the street in certain American and foreign cities.

2. Politicians throughout the world would issue pro forma condemnations of the act.

3. The assassin would be sentenced to life imprisonment (but not executed).

4. President Pence would be easily elected in his own right in November, 2020.

5. To many people, President Trump would be considered a martyr (along with Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy).

thanks, but no

wont even think such thoughts...and i am not a Trump fan

i think the thread is a losing proposition...period!

"President Pence" ROFL not likely.

It seems we've already seen this play out with JFK. Some will rejoice, some will cry, but life will go on.

1. As you know, Vice President Pence WOULD become President in such circumstances.

2. Vice President Johnson became President after President Kennedy's death, and he was elected in his own right at the next election. Perhaps as a sign of sympathy for what had happened in Dallas on that tragic day.

3. Quite possibly, many Americans (of BOTH parties) might want to express their sympathies by giving President Pence his own term in office.

Have a nice day!

Democrats aren't going to vote for President Pence out of sympathy for Donald Trump because Democrats don't have any sympathy for Donald Trump, and because Pence is a well known religious fundamentalist.

President Trump has built up quite a cult of personality in a fair chunk of hop is supporters. Would such zealous supporters of the Cult of Donald Trump look at such an event as a coup d'etat and take up arms in the streets of America? They number in the millions and could present a real danger to law, order, stability and good governance if riled to violence. On the other side there are plenty of far-left leaning Americans who might reject the rules of succession and move to the out of doors to paralyse a Spence Administration.

These two poles could then clash violently in the streets of America leading to a progressive breakdown in order on your streets and further polarising political factions in your republic. What then? Suspend the US Constitution and prevent freedom of speech and assembly or let the streets burn?

Cheers.
