Huntsman 2016?

Yes, it's very preliminary, and a lot can happen between now and then, but if you had to venture a guess, what do you think of Jon Huntsman's chances for gaining the Republican nomination for President in 2016? Do you think he made enough of a name for himself to be honestly considered by enough people next time?

Extremely small chance of winning, but I'd support him 100% if he ran.

I think he'll have a better showing, and will be big enough to be taken seriously in debates and such, but I don't see him winning it.

Unfortunately. He's still my guy at the moment.

I'd love to see him get the nod, but I can't see it happening.

The tea party and such will never allow it to happen.

After both 2008/2012 the right had opportunities to regroup and all but dump the fringe that is ruining their party. They seem to be digging in.

I would like to see Huntsman having a prayer ( :) ) but it just ain't gonnna happen.

Look at the last election....they "settled" on Romney. Look at the folks they really had passion for Perry ?Santorum? 999? Bachmann? Newt?
Out of that group, Newt was the most level headed, but of course totally unelectable based on, well, his history.;)

The right still has no focus except to be anti-Obama.

Look at what happened with Cruz. His pseudo philabuster ? What a great opportunity to say "FU" to Obamacare and give his own ideas for reform.

Most reasonable people in this country realize that the health care system in this country has been broken for decades. So Cruz had opportunity to give his ideas and focus for reform with definable concrete ideas and plans. Instead, we got yet another Republican saying FU to Obama.

At some point a Republican has to acknowledge a problem and have real solutions. But my guess is that based on history many will have no trust that they will actually give a rats ass about how "the little people" got their health care.

Perhaps Huntsman is that man. He certainly is not a teavangelical which is a plus.:)

He has absolutely no chance of winning in the republican party.

Zero chance. The Republican party today is too full of wacko right-wingers....never going to happen. The only shot a moderate like Huntsman would ever have is if the teabaggers revolt and leave the party to form their own. Other than that...ain't ever going to happen.

Out of all the republican candidates, huntsman seemed the most appropiate and the most logical. Ron paul had a fanbase, but not the stature.

I am not sure if there is an abundance, but they certainly let that noisy whacko group control their focus.

He's too rational to get the job.

The day Huntsman wins the Republican Primary is the day pigs sprout metallic wings, take to the skies and arm themselves with plasma cannons.

IMO, the whole plan for Obama picking him to be China's ambassador to get rid of him was overblown. The GOP has moved too far to the right for Huntsman to have had a chance. If Huntsman was running in 2000, that would have been different, even 2008. But 2012? Political landscape has changed too much for someone like him to have a place in the GOP.

I would have loved to see him as the candidate in 2012. I would have loved to see the Obama camp try to discredit Huntsman.

"But, ummm, Mr Obama... didn't you pick him to represent you in China? How can he be so bad if you picked him yourself for such an important post?"

That's why the Obama camp was afraid. So they put him in their own camp so the GOP would tear him apart if he ran. However, that's not what doomed Huntsman. Huntsman was simply too moderate, too rational and too stiff to have any chance.

I agree with your assessment of what doomed him 100%.

Sadly Huntsman has no chance.........I think there is only one person out there who can beat Hillary and that is Dr Ben Carson.

slim to none. he's even less known now. He also has a reputation of being a RINO. He does have some cute daughters though

we need someone who isn't going to compromise with the whacko anti american left wing nut cases who want to get a GOP moderate in power to compromise and to allow the creeping crud of socialism to advance

I hope and pray that the GOP continues to follow your line of reasoning....in all honesty.

If we get a sensible conservative government, the parasites are going to starve. its time for the teat suckers to stop paying for their own existence

It looks like that is what is happening. Cruz seemed to be throwing his clown hat in the ring the other day.:lamo

Hillary might as well start figuring out what rules to pin on the first "gentleman".

Huntsman IMO would be a good candidate not to extreme and on the "hot topic issues" kind of middle of the road in general
Jon Huntsman on the Issues

He has evolved on equal rights for gays he now supports them.
"All Americans should be treated equally by the law, whether they marry in a church, another religious institution, or a town hall. This does not mean that any religious group would be forced by the state to recognize relationships that run counter to their conscience. Civil equality is compatible with, and indeed promotes, freedom of conscience."

He supports the 2nd amendment

not so good on the antiabortion front to extreme

seems good on government reform, corporations and crime and some other issues

but my guess is with politics current scene like it is, "sterotypical" him supporting equal rights (some how this has become bad) will NEVER allow him to get the republican nomination and thats sad.

Watching the Republican debates last year, Huntsman was the only one who didn't come off as a complete clown. I simply do not know enough about him to say if I'd vote for him, but I would have at least been willing to give him an honest chance to win my vote. I assume my position on him would be the same in 4 years.

Of course, like others in this thread have noted, the fact he wasn't a clown in those debates are what kept him from having any real chance of winning and would likely prevent him from winning next round as well.

Hillary isn't the shining Joan of Arkansas that you leftwing women think she is. She lost to Obama after all.

She's also aged very poorly and she's gonna be really long in the tooth come 2016.
