How would this go over?

Our incompetent congress does not control your dependence on our economy.

No, but their actions do impact our neighbor to the north. They impact our allies in Europe to a lesser degree.

A Canadian politician once said that living so close to the US is a lot like sleeping with an elephant. The beast may mean you no harm, but it puts you in jeopardy every time it rolls over. I'm not sure who it was, but he made a good point.
 
And they havent had one in almost a century.

Then explain how the US government paid off its WWII debt, while at the same time the US economy become the largest in the world.

And those impacts are not the govts concern. Its concern is defending lives and freedom. What we do with that freedom and the consequences of it are peoples problem, not govt.

The economy became the largest in the world all by itself. The government benefitted from that in the 1950's
