no not sell allow fishing boats access to our waters unless a deal is struck .... can you honestly see a deal being done with Scotland and the rest of the UK when they can't even do one with the EU .... on the exit from the UK London will burn the bridges so to speak ..... both Tories and Labour threatened hard borders in 2014

A deal between Scotland and the rest of the UK will be massively simpler than a deal between the UK and EU.

Scotland's "auld alliance" is with France not Germany ffs lol.
we had long standing trading ties with the Hanseatic league and some of Scotland's oldest documents remain in Hamburg .... we also had ties with the Dutch as we got all our wheat from Netherlands/Holland we had trade links with Germanic traders going back before the creation of Scotland in 862AD and as for the Auld Alliance/Vieille Alliance (An Seann-chaidreachas) according to prominent historians it was never renounced by Scotland/Alba (Ala-Pa) or France/Fraunc so when Scots landed on Normandy and the 51st Highland Division fought on in '40 after Dunkirk they were essentially fulfilling their/our obligation under the treaty

A deal between Scotland and the rest of the UK will be massively simpler than a deal between the UK and EU.
i would hope so for both countries sake we are the rUK's 2nd biggest customer after America ..... but as i said i don't trust Boris or the Tory party

Back in the 1970's, more American banks had offices in London, than in New York. Between 1957 & 1981 the number of foreign banks in the City rose from 80 to 520 - more than twice as many as any other centre in the world. Now £1 trillion of assets & 7000 jobs so far are moving out due to Brexit, mostly to Frankfurt.

So much freedom!

A reminder i=of the Brexit that was sold to leavers.

And? The problem is how the fishing stock is to be counted. Now the EU wants to use the current system, where as the British wants to use a different one. That is the problem.

It's British waters we are talking about. The EU have no right at all, now that Brexit has happened and the UK is no longer a member of the EU, to decide how anything is counted. British people will decide what happens in their own waters just as the EU is welcome to decide what happens in theirs.

This is yet another great example of how the EU is acting unreasonably.

Now this does mean that the UK has considerable power over this

Congrats, you got that one correct. You need to tell the EU to stop acting so unreasonably.

So you can have all those fish, but no where to sell them and not enough boats to fish them.

Don't you realise how silly you are to claim that Brits have nowhere to sell their fish? A trade deal will be done with the EU whether on WTO terms or whether another deal is agreed.

The Brits don't have enough boats because the industry has been damaged by EU fisherman fishing in British waters. British fisherman only catch 40% of the fish caught in British waters. The British fishing industry therefore has the potential to expand by 250%.

Yet another advantage of Brexit

Cars matter far more to the UK economy and the British could not give a damn about them for some reason.. odd eh?

That they couldn't give a damn about cars is obviously not true...and is a silly claim.

The UK has Korea and Japan lining up to substitute their cars for those made by the European vehicle manufacturers who are currently advantaged.

the UK fishing waters the EU countries want access to are Scotland's maritime waters the only real fishing waters apart from Norway is worth a damn in Europe .... the English should worry more about access to our waters when we leave ... no more cod for your fish and chips

You are obviously not aware that British fishermen only catch 40% of the fish caught in British waters.

English fisherman will have more than enough water to fish in without competition from EU fishermen and even Scottish fishermen, in the unlikely event that Scotland leaves the UK. The vast majority of the fish caught by Scottish fishermen is sold in the rest of the UK anyway.

Now £1 trillion of assets & 7000 jobs so far are moving out due to Brexit, mostly to Frankfurt.

Those sort of hysterical and exaggerated claims are already proving false.

"While there has been great concern that Brexit will prompt an exodus of jobs and assets from the City to other European financial centres like Frankfurt, Paris and Dublin, the survey suggests that none of these cities is forecast to rival New York or London."

Financial Times - January 27 2020

Those who are against Brexit, whether bitter EU citizens or British remainers, cannot deny that probably the most respected, knowledgeable and influential economic body in Europe, the OECD has predicted more GDP growth for the UK over 2020/2021 than it does for the EU.

Why anyone would believe the thumb suck, unsubstantiated predictions of doom and gloom from the anti-Brexit mob rather than the OECD is beyond any logic.

The OECD shows UK GDP declining 2,5% over 2020/2021 whilst it has the EU GDP declining 2,8%.

This after the UK had higher GDP growth than the EU in 2019.

Brexit will certainly have a short term negative effect on UK GDP but even with this disadvantage, the UK is seen by the OECD as being better off than the EU.

You do know that European aircraft usually pass through British airspace to fly to the states?
So cutting off your nose to spite your face is now official Johnson government policy.
The massive trade imbalance between the U.K. and EU is one of the reasons for Brexit. When the imbalance is as obscene as it has become its time to remove yourself from the protection racket because it is clearly not protecting you ....it’s raping you.

the UK fishing waters the EU countries want access to are Scotland's maritime waters the only real fishing waters apart from Norway is worth a damn in Europe .... the English should worry more about access to our waters when we leave ... no more cod for your fish and chips
Why don’t you go and tell some Scottish fishermen that you wish to give the whole of the EU access to their waters...whilst the rUK has all its own waters to itself. I’d Wear a crash helmet and some lightweight running shoes if I were you lol.

There’s a reason Scottish fishermen want out of the EU.

So our fishermen win raped waters they already sold. Win win for Brexit. The Portsmouth fleet must be thrilled!
A friend of mine hangs out at his local with some Pompey fishermen...they live a tough life ( and drink like fish lol) . They earn about £200 a day if they are out for 24 hours ...they spend a week or so at a time out there. Then the UK authorities come down like a ton of bricks on them for any undersize catch....issuing large fines at the drop of a hat...I bet the French authorities are nowhere near as hard on their fishermen. It’s a hard way to earn a living...oh and they have running scraps with French boats too.

And the fishing rights that British fishermen sold .. what about those?

Congrats, you got that one correct. You need to tell the EU to stop acting so unreasonably.

They are not. The UK is using this portion as an excuse for a no deal. Pure and simple. There could easily be a compromise here, which the EU easily could accept. The UK has refused to back down on their method of counting fish.

Don't you realise how silly you are to claim that Brits have nowhere to sell their fish? A trade deal will be done with the EU whether on WTO terms or whether another deal is agreed.

Making their fish potentially too expensive. You seem to think WTO rules are some sort of great deal.. they are not. Plus the UK wont be on normal WTO rules on January 1st... she needs to negotiate schedules with most of the planet, and while there is no schedules, the WTO rules that will be in place with be that of 3rd country status.

The Brits don't have enough boats because the industry has been damaged by EU fisherman fishing in British waters. British fisherman only catch 40% of the fish caught in British waters. The British fishing industry therefore has the potential to expand by 250%.

That is simply not true. British fishing fleets were on a massive decline before joining the EEC/EU. It was a symptom of the failing British Empire.

That they couldn't give a damn about cars is obviously not true...and is a silly claim.

The UK has Korea and Japan lining up to substitute their cars for those made by the European vehicle manufacturers who are currently advantaged.

What are you talking about? Cars made in Korea and Japan will have the same tariffs as those made in the UK, making them more expensive. And the car companies in the UK are almost all non British, with manufacturing on the continent.. easy to move there. It will happen. Honda has already announced it is closing its plant. Nissan is hinting it is going to move a ton of production to Europe and I betcha that the other companies will announce the same once a no deal is final. That is the UKs 2 or 3rd largest industry.

The UK is using this portion as an excuse for a no deal.

Which is an opinion that makes no sense at all as they have no motive to want a no deal. Boris would be heavily criticised in the UK if this happened...which I am sure he would want to avoid.

The EU have a very compelling motive to want a no deal. They want to show the other member states how difficult it is to end their membership of the EU.

The EU will probably cave in again as the Germans are already predicting disaster for their motor industry if there is a no deal....and they pull the strings of the EU leadership.

It was a symptom of the failing British Empire.
Lol! You have the same hackneyed view of the "Empire" that many anti-Brits have.

The Empire was created during a time of no or limited democracy when monarchs or the filthy rich called the tune. It was never something the average working class Brit was interested in. Democracy, both in the UK and its colonies put a welcome end to that period of British history.

I personally am thankful to Britain and its former colonies for their sacrifice in freeing Western Europe from fascist EU nations and also preventing further Communist expansion into Europe.

Cars made in Korea and Japan will have the same tariffs as those made in the UK.

If you read my post again you will see that I was comparing the cost of cars from Korea and Japan to EU cars. The EU cars will not only lose the tariff free advantage they have had for years but will have tariffs imposed on their importation.

Or perhaps you haven't caught up yet with the latest news :

"10% import tax on new cars from European Union"

As for Nissan, you need an update there too as the anti-Tory Guardian reports :

"Nissan 'could pull out of EU and expand in UK after hard Brexit'"

"Nissan proves Remainers wrong as it looks to move manufacturing from Spain to UK"

Honda has already announced it is closing its plant.

Are you not aware that this closure has nothing to do with Brexit, but is a result of declining sales in the whole of Europe?

The Japanese motor industry has been in decline for years due to the massive increase in lower cost vehicles being made in Korea and China.

"The Swindon factory closure: how Honda got Europe so wrong"

"European sales have been on a steady – some insiders say ‘managed’ – decline, levelling out at 140,000-150,000 units in 2017/18 – pretty much where Honda’s European sales started in 1990."

"German car industry's paralysing fears over ‘fatal’ Brexit exposed"

"The despairing warning came from German auto industry association VDA just two days before the UK officially left the EU and completed Brexit. It said: “The consequences of a ‘no deal’ would be fatal." They also warned that "jobs are on the line" as Germany's biggest car manufacturers pleaded with the British Government to create clarity over Brexit and ensure tariff-free trade can continue."

The EU has not caved yet, so why should they do it "again". The only one who has caved is in fact Boris, and he has in fact caved somewhat on parts of the fishing deal.

And the EU does need to show how hard it is to leave the EU... the UK did that all on its own with its bungled Brexit. Danes were one of the nations that maybe could leave.. but now, the last polls show 70% support. Good job UK!

Lol! You have the same hackneyed view of the "Empire" that many anti-Brits have.

Not really...it is called facts.. stuff that Brits actually dont get taught in school.. very few know of the Bengal famine caused by Churchill..

LOL what a load of bs. The British Empire was created because the British could not hack it on the continent. It was created by intimidation, violence and worse. There is plenty of evidence that the British saw "locals" as sub-humans. And funny how you forget your own countries history and why it was created.. talk about being in denial.

I personally am thankful to Britain and its former colonies for their sacrifice in freeing Western Europe from fascist EU nations and also preventing further Communist expansion into Europe.

Yea that was great.. but starving millions of Indians, killing 10s of thousands of Boers and all the other crap the British Empire did... was not so good.

Was too be expected. Will only hurt the UK consumer.. /shrug.

That was what... 8 months ago? Things change fast these days... that was pre covid.

"Nissan proves Remainers wrong as it looks to move manufacturing from Spain to UK"

Express? HAHAH, you actually believe what they say? They lie and manipulate in every article.. even on shit like computers. They pushed an article saying that MILLIONS of Whatsapp users were going to lose Whatsapp. A whole page of "how bad is Facebook" shit, and then one line... "will effect phones that use Android 2.3 and older"... wtf? That is a 10 year old operating system.. who the hell still has a 10 year old smartphone? This is just one of many bullshit stories in the Express.

Yes the plants are closing, but that has been in the cards for years. Lack of demand. So are you telling me, that under Covid, that moving the manufacturing to the UK will suddenly spur demand for said cars? Get real. And that those cars made there, will be 10% more expensive at a minimum than one produced in Europe? Yea, great idea to move to the UK... NOT! Not to mention, Nissan is partially French.... so doubt the French will want this to happen.

Oh I know, but it is still closing the plant during Brexit. And that is despite that plant getting massive tax payer subsidies for years.. congrats.

...

Yeah you don't really know much about the UK or Boris Johnson.

It’s a paradox that given the fact that many remainers, EUers and leftists clearly despise the English (as demonstrated by this thread)...that they are also traumatised by the fact that we have left. I think it is because in their heart of hearts they know it signals the end of their empire building. Without the U.K. balance is lost and the Germans will not allow the direction of the EU to be governed by France, Italy and Spain. Accept it chaps , the game is up.

wrong 60% of the catch is to the EU ... 90% of the shellfish is sold to Europe .... all the finest French hotels and eateries buy their shellfish with Scottish shellfish and the French fish markets are filled with Scottish shellfish freshly landed during the early hours and sent to the French and European markets within a couple of hours ... the French can't get enough of our Langoustines and our Scallops and West coast of Scotland Lobsters

btw that was not a thumbs for liking this i wanted to express dismay for those who lost and are losing their jobs it's not a nice feeling ... other sites when you click i like give you the option to show happiness, sadness, anger etc

How much of the fish in Scottish waters is landed by non Scottish boats? If you think Scottish fishermen are pro- EU you are even more deluded than I thought lol.
