And? The problem is how the fishing stock is to be counted. Now the EU wants to use the current system, where as the British wants to use a different one. That is the problem.
Yes and? Brits dont eat that much fish. Also the British fishermen have sold off fishing rights to foreign companies... what are you going to do about that?
Yes they will and it will be a huge problem. Why? Well empire.. some of the economic zone is based on British claims to small rocks in the middle of no where, and no one has complained about it yet... but hey that can happen.
The problem is simple.. French, Dutch, Danish and so waters are the hatchery areas of Europe, and the UK and further out, are where the adult fish live. Now this does mean that the UK has considerable power over this, but again the UK fishing fleet is small because... no one eats fish (relatively speaking). So you can have all those fish, but no where to sell them and not enough boats to fish them.. congrats!
What the article also forgets to mention, is that a huge portion of British fishermen's catches is sold in the EU, because no one in the UK want those types of fish. So that will basically kill off your fishing industry, unless you force Brits to change food eating habits.
And finally.. scrubbing a trade deal over an industry that accounts of 0.1% of GDP is a bit silly no? Cars matter far more to the UK economy and the British could not give a damn about them for some reason.. odd eh? Not to mention banking and other industries.. noo, lets focus on fish!.. pathetic.
