This software has been used since 2008 to identify child-exploitation videos on social platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Apparently, the author says it can be adapted to identify violent jihadi videos. The proprietary software itself remains with the author. It is up to the participating companies to formulate a response to actionable material.

Fair enough, but the government has similar stuff I'm sure (similar to their facial-recognition software). If the gov don't license it, they'll reverse-engineer it or develop their own using the author's proof of concept.

This is a powerful tool, and could be easily misused by the gov. Even when used so-called 'properly', it will have some level of error rate.

Every tool is a double-edged sword.

Not arguing that, just pointing out the flip-side.

I continue to get more worried about technological intrusion as time goes on, but technology does give us quality of life (and convenience, as well).

It's that double-edged sword thing going on.
